The Lazy Lobster is a seafood restaurant located in Longboat Key, Florida. It opened its doors on October 15, 2009, in the midst of the economic crisis, in a location that had not been favorable for previous establishments. The founding partnership consists of Bob Fracalossy and Michael Garey, who met in 1979 at Café L'Europe in St. Armand's Circle, where Bob worked as a butcher and Michael as a waiter's assistant. Over time, Bob became a chef and Michael general manager. In 1994 they opened the original Café on the Bay at Moorings Marina for the owners of Café L'Europe, where Bob remained as chef for several years. The restaurant took off almost immediately and, according to the company itself, has enjoyed greater success than expected.

Dining offerings and menus

The focus is on fresh seafood, comforting classic dishes, and signature cocktails. The menu includes options such as lobster scargot, lobster bisque, lobster cargo with salad, Key West shrimp platter, and lobster mac & cheese. The company also makes and sells pepper jelly, available in its shop. The website features a section for food and drink menus, as well as the option to order online.

Catering and events

The catering service is presented as an alternative to predictable menus, with dishes prepared fresh and designed to travel well without losing quality. The offering ranges from seafood to comforting classics. For events, the restaurant has a private room that can accommodate groups of 10 to 16 diners, and for larger gatherings it can host up to 40 people in the main dining room, while maintaining its characteristic service and hospitality.

Hours and season

The restaurant operates on a seasonal schedule. In summer, it is closed for lunch and open Monday through Saturday from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m., closed on Sundays. The garden terrace opens seasonally, from October to May. During the summer season, Monday through Thursday, from August 10 to September 30, the early dining menu offers 15% off until 5:30 p.m., and the regular dinner menu has 15% off from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. Happy hour includes beer, wine, and cocktails all night.

Other initiatives of the group

In 2013, the partners opened Kacey's Seafood & More in Sarasota, which later added a second location in the same city. The group's fourth initiative is a partnership with the Alderson family, owners of Tyler's Gourmet Ice Cream, to bring locally produced artisan ice creams and gourmet chocolates to Longboat Key.
