History of the place

The blue building on Petronia Street is home to a century-old history of entertaining islanders. On September 19, 1992, Suanne, an artist, and Richard, a writer, cooked and served their first dishes of black beans, rice, and fish to lunch customers at painted picnic tables under the Spanish Lime tree.

Cuisine and team

David Dorsty is the head chef. Born in Long Island, New York, he has spent most of his life in the Florida Keys. He worked as a chef at the area's major resorts and at Blue Heaven for four years as a sous chef. In 2012 he moved to the Catskill and Finger Lakes region of New York, where he worked in farm-to-table cuisine at the North Branch Inn, had a brief stint at Cornell University, and then at a gastro pub tied to a local farm. His style is described as clean, highly developed flavors with an emphasis on fermentation, spice, and authenticity. The chef himself notes that he likes working with seasonal ingredients and telling a story of the present moment.

Vacation notice
