About Indy Achieves — IU Indianapolis Promise Scholarship
Indy Achieves supports Marion County residents attending IU Indianapolis; it is not a statewide scholarship for every Indiana student. The university describes it as last-dollar supplemental aid that covers part of the eligible balance between financial aid and regular tuition/fees, along with cohort advising. There is no separate Indy Achieves application.
The university automatically considers students already receiving eligible state aid, such as 21st Century Scholars or the Frank O’Bannon Grant. IU Indianapolis reviews the admission file and notifies qualifying students. Students still must complete FAFSA and any verification required for the underlying state award; without that eligibility, the local supplement cannot continue.
There is no single amount for every student: the calculation depends on the financial-aid package and eligible tuition/fee balance after other awards. Compare the aid letter with total cost and ask which charges are included. Do not assume housing, food, books, transportation, or other unlisted expenses are covered. Request an individual estimate before committing to enrollment.
Renewal requires FAFSA by April 15 each year, continued state-aid eligibility, at least 30 completed credits annually, and satisfactory academic progress (SAP). IU Indianapolis lists FAFSA code 001813. April 15 is the state priority date; file early and check the portal for missing documents or corrections.
Beyond funding, each cohort has a success coach who meets individually, helps set academic and career goals, and connects students with campus resources. The program lists achieves@iu.edu and Taylor Hall, second floor, 815 W. Michigan St., Indianapolis. If you change courses, transfer, or interrupt study, ask first because state aid or the Indy Achieves calculation could change.
