About Consulate-General of Japan in Houston

Houston serves Texas and Oklahoma and separates its contact channels by subject. Visa applications, Japanese passports and certificates do not share one email address or one workflow. Starting with the appropriate section—jvisa@ho.mofa.go.jp for visas, ryoji@ho.mofa.go.jp for passports or shomei@ho.mofa.go.jp for certificates—routes enquiries to the team that publishes the relevant requirements.

The Consulate handles passports and travel documents, family-register matters, certificates, overseas voting and assistance to Japanese nationals. Its certificate list includes residence, signature, passport-possession, birth, marriage, divorce, police and translation certificates. Applicants are asked to contact the certificate section first; not every document can be requested online, and signature, translation and police certificates remain outside the digital route.

Eligible passport applications may use ORR-Net, but collection usually takes three to four weeks because passports are produced in Japan, and pickup is at the selected consulate. For visas, in-person morning drop-off is available without an appointment. Since June 2026, applicants who owe a fee must deliver the file at the office; mail remains an option only for qualifying fee-exempt cases under the published rules.

The consular counter is open 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 1:30–4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday except holidays; visitors are asked to arrive thirty minutes before closing. The office is at 2 Houston Center, 909 Fannin Street, Suite 3000. Official directions explain the elevator route and note that parking is the visitor’s responsibility. The main telephone is +1 713-652-2977.

Google Maps associates the Consulate-General listing with 909 Fannin Street; the visible figures are stored at the top of the profile and not repeated in these paragraphs. Reviews do not replace eligibility, counter-hour or email instructions issued by the office. The official site identifies Takeshi Koyama as consul general and links the consulate’s social accounts.
