The Arenas family’s Chinatown taqueria, founded as a truck in 1985, with adobada, cabeza and birria tacos and a short lunchtime schedule.
About La Elegante Taqueria
Four decades carried from a truck to Kern Street
La Elegante began with Benito and Celia Arenas and their family in 1985. The taco truck preceded the Chinatown restaurant, which opened in December 1993. Benito, originally from Jalisco, died in 2022; his children continued the business. Fresno recognized its fortieth anniversary in 2025. That history belongs to a family operation whose original truck remains part of its identity.
Adobada and asada are a useful starting pair, followed by lengua, cabeza or birria for a different cut and texture. The current ordering menu dresses tacos with guacamole, onion, cilantro, cabbage and chile. Fresh tomato can replace the chile. This is a more substantial vegetable dressing than an onion-and-cilantro-only taco, and a relevant detail for anyone arranging several different orders.
A two-taco combination adds whole beans and rice; a single-taco combination is listed separately. Tortas, burritos, tostadas and quesadillas extend the same filling choices. The torta includes whole beans, while the burrito adds rice. Soups include menudo and birria, with consomé also offered separately. Chile verde is listed but was unavailable in the live ordering menu at review, so it should not anchor an advance group order.
Restaurant and blue truck
- Chinatown restaurant: 1423 Kern Street, Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; 559-497-5844. Closed Sunday and Monday.
- La Troca Azul: the business’s recent announcement places it at 2373–2399 East Muscat Avenue, Thursday–Sunday 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. This is a truck stop, not a second dining room.
Kern Street’s direct online ordering is explicitly pickup-only. The restaurant phone is a general contact, not a dedicated delivery number. Its compact lunch window makes this an early meal rather than an evening stop.
