About Student Engagement and Support Services — Illinois Student Assistance Commission

Student Engagement and Support Services is ISAC’s help point for students and families navigating state programs, deadlines and portals. It does not replace a college financial-aid office: ISAC administers MAP and explains program rules, while the institution confirms enrollment and certifies eligible charges. The published general student line is (800) 899-4722.

The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central, and ISAC says Spanish-speaking representatives are available. Before calling, have the award year—such as 2027–28—the college name, FAFSA submission date and any ISAC notice ready. Do not share passwords, full Social Security numbers or sensitive documents in public forums; use official portals and channels.

The Illinois Student Portal is for managing ISAC resources and processes, but it is different from the college student account. To track MAP, keep the FAFSA confirmation, make sure at least one approved school was listed, read the aid offer and ask the college whether an estimated award is waiting for certification or an unprocessed claim. ISAC can explain the program and cycle status; the college can identify the next action on the student account.

In public forums, some students described MAP as “estimated” after classes had started while their college waited for funds to transfer or process. These are individual accounts and do not establish a delay at every school. They do show why a useful support request should be specific: which system has the current status, who must act next and when to check again. Record the representative’s name and case number.

If the issue is eligibility, a deadline or FAFSA data that did not appear, contact the college financial-aid office first and then ISAC with the exact notice. For help calculating SAI, correcting a FAFSA or verifying a contributor, use Federal Student Aid resources as well as state support. ISAC publishes information and assistance in Spanish; it cannot promise that an application will receive MAP.

In brief

Help navigating ISAC processes and resources; MAP eligibility decisions and disbursement remain part of the official process and college certification
