Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen
Carol Nguyen brings family recipes and Northern Vietnamese flavors to Greenville Avenue, from long-simmered pho to Hanoi-style bun cha.
About Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen
Ngon brings Hanoi cooking to Greenville Avenue through the family table of its owner, Carol Nguyen. The restaurant takes its name from her mother, Ngôn—the Vietnamese word also means “delicious”—and credits her grandmother as the source of many recipes. That story is more than a decorative gesture: it carries into a menu centered on everyday Northern Vietnamese dishes and flavors made for sharing.
The menu offers an entry through phở Hà Nội, whose beef broth simmers for twenty-four hours, or bún chả, rice vermicelli served with chargrilled pork, herbs and fish sauce. Green papaya salad with Vietnamese beef jerky adds a fresher, crisper combination. Each dish has its own profile, yet all make visible the balance of herbs, broth, char and sauce that supports much of Vietnamese cooking. The MICHELIN Guide identifies Ngon with Northern Vietnamese tradition and awards it a Bib Gourmand distinction.
A comparison with Một Hai Ba helps clarify Dallas’s Vietnamese-influenced dining: Ngon starts from regional and family references, while the other restaurant works in a fusion register with French techniques and seasonal ingredients. At Ngon, diners find a broad menu spanning soup, dry noodles, rice and shareable starters; for a first visit, bún chả and phở offer two different routes into Hanoi. The restaurant’s official hours do not list Sunday, although the current MICHELIN profile does; confirm through the booking system before setting out.
