About Cavan Bakery
David Cavan founded Cavan Bakery in Twickenham in 1929. What began as one shop has developed into a family business with fourteen locations across southwest London. In 2022, production moved to a purpose-built bakery in Walton-on-Thames, an expansion bringing traditional methods together with a larger production scale.
Sourdough has a prominent place in the offering. The recipe starts with flour, water, and salt, with fermentation time part of the process. Alongside plain sourdough, the selection includes rosemary and sea salt, olive, multiseed, malted, and Sourdough 17. This variety provides different profiles for breakfast and everyday meals.
Production also includes buttery pastries, sausage sandwiches, and coffee. Click & Collect orders organize pickups, while wholesale supply serves London and surrounding counties. The bakery and shops have different functions within the operation: the production address should not be confused with the location of every retail counter.
The company seeks ingredients from local traders and takes steps to reduce waste. It donates daily surpluses to community kitchens, food banks, shelters, and breakfast programs. Redistribution forms part of a relationship with the area beyond selling bread, making use of products left unsold during the day.
Cavan also uses recycled and recyclable packaging where possible and offers reusable cups, cotton bread bags, and shopping bags. Electric vehicles joined its fleet in 2019. Family history, sourdough varieties, and production for stores and business customers define a bakery combining continuity with a contemporary operation.
