About Robertson Homes
Robertson Homes, new-build housing developer in Scotland and the North East of England
Robertson Homes is a privately-owned housebuilder that builds and sells new homes in Scotland and the North East of England. The company presents itself as part of one of the UK's largest privately-owned construction and support services groups, with offices from Inverness to Sheffield, and organises its activity around the sale of new-build houses in developments across several regions.
Family origins and history since 1966
The business that is now Robertson Homes was founded in Elgin in 1966. Bill Robertson was 21 when he started his joinery business and, within three years, he had already built and sold his first house. In 1975 the company took on its first design-and-build contract and, the following year, Robertson of Elgin became a limited company.
Since then, the Robertson family has welcomed new members, acquired small specialist companies and created new facilities management and civil engineering divisions. Territorial expansion took place gradually throughout Scotland and in 1999 the company completed its first project in England. In 2016, on its 50th anniversary, it employed over 3,000 people.
Developments and areas of operation
Commercial activity is organised by region: North Scotland, East Scotland, West Scotland and North East England. The website allows filtering developments by region and distinguishes between available homes and coming soon developments. Among the developments identified are Almondell (East Calder), Bowes Manor (Burnopfield, Newcastle upon Tyne), Kingswood (Fife), The Drovers (East Calder), Elderslie (Renfrewshire), Findrassie (Elgin), Great Glen (Inverness), Seven Hills (South Lanarkshire), Lionfields (Chester-le-Street, County Durham), Meadowside (Bo'ness), Calder Grange (Mid Calder), Muirhall Road (Perth), Polmont (Falkirk), Shawfair (Dalkeith), St. Margarets (Rosslynlee), Torvean (Inverness) and Castle Gate (Winchburgh).
The company states that it selects locations with good transport connections and access to schools and services, and places placemaking at the heart of its activity, with the stated aim of creating safe and cohesive communities.
Schemes to make moving easier
Robertson Homes offers several schemes to help with buying and selling the previous home:
- Part Exchange: the company can buy the customer's home in as little as four weeks, so they don't have to worry about selling.
- 5% Deposit Paid: a deposit contribution scheme that can add up to 5% to the amount the buyer has already saved.
- EasyMove: the company helps sell the home for six weeks and pays the estate agent and home report fees.
- Guaranteed Move: Robertson Homes acts as buyer if the home doesn't sell on the open market.
Build standard and energy efficiency
The company groups under the name "The Robertson Standard" the criteria it applies to its homes. It highlights energy efficiency as an important aspect for homeowners, as well as a level of specification that, according to its own presentation, exceeds the industry standard across all price ranges. The company describes its houses as built with traditional craftsmanship and a care for detail that, in its opinion, sets them apart.
The website includes show home videos to show the result of its homes, as well as information on specifications and the buying process.
Customer service and quality guarantees
Robertson Homes maintains local sales teams for each development and a customer service team for homeowners. The company adheres to the Consumer Code and the New Homes Quality Code, and has a published complaints procedure. It also offers buyers a guide to the buying process, from reservation to customisation of the home, and answers frequently asked questions.
Its website includes customer testimonials, some of them referring to the insulation of the homes and the cost of maintenance, and states that its customer service is exceptional.
