FATSO

Colombian dark chocolate brand created by Ella McKay and her cofounders, with six distinctive bars, gift boxes, and retail distribution.

About FATSO

FATSO began with a question about dark chocolate: why did so many bars look restrained when they could include more playful flavors and textures? Ella McKay and her cofounders developed the idea during the 2020 lockdown. After working with Luker Chocolate and Ken, a chef who had taught himself chocolate making, they launched the brand in 2022 with three combinations.

The base remains single-origin Colombian dark chocolate. The company identifies Luker Chocolate as its supplier and connects the cocoa with the Fino de Aroma classification. Its sourcing story includes The Chocolate Dream, an initiative working with farming communities and sustainable innovation. That relationship accompanies a range keeping dark chocolate as the starting point for every bar.

Morn’n Glory brings breakfast references into chocolate through cornflakes, toast, and orange marmalade. Home Run combines pretzels, almonds, and honeycomb, an airy, crunchy candy. Nan’s Stash brings together peanuts, toffee, and digestive biscuits, with ingredients introducing different levels of crunch and a sweet-and-salty combination.

King’s Ransom adds mint, pistachios, and nibs, the small fragments of the cocoa bean. Sweet Tart combines cherries, almonds, and buttery shortbread. Drunk’n Monkey brings together rum, banana, and salted crackers. The names are part of an informal presentation, but each corresponds to an identifiable recipe within the selection.

The bars are designed as thick pieces with visible inclusions and a distinct look for each flavor. Selection boxes bring together several recipes for comparing combinations or giving as a gift. The shop separates individual bars from sets, allowing a choice between returning to a familiar offering and discovering several in one purchase.

Distribution operates online and through retailers. The company’s story describes its arrival at Liberty London, Harvey Nichols, and Anthropologie after launch. Its stockist finder and trade channel support that presence, alongside consumer inquiries by email and form.

The brand publishes information about cocoa and packaging, with recyclable and compostable components identified in its offering. Ella also connects her work with visibility for women starting businesses. FATSO has expanded its original three flavors into a family of six, keeping a specific idea: exploring dark chocolate through recognizable ingredients, textural contrasts, and formats for sharing.
