Nearly Naked Veg

Family business established in 2009 offering fruit, vegetables, and cooking ingredients through boxes, individual-product orders, and national delivery from Plymouth.

About Nearly Naked Veg

Nearly Naked Veg began with a vegetable box and a nearby network of growers. Ben founded the company in Newton Ferrers in March 2009, and the first delivery arrived that June with produce from his own farm and other local growers. The family business expanded through Devon and Cornwall before extending national delivery in 2023.

Its growth also changed the workplace: it moved to Plympton in 2012 and Crownhill, Plymouth, in 2022. From there it selects produce from nearby farmers and suppliers in other regions. The company cites deliveries from Devon and Cornwall and markets in Bristol and London, a combination explaining why local food appears alongside fruit and vegetables from more varied origins.

Boxes organize part of the catalog: vegetables with fruit, a fruit selection, a vegetable box, and salad combinations. Another option brings together a whole chicken, vegetables, stuffing, and thyme for a roast. Customers can also build an order by adding individual products rather than choosing only a prearranged box.

The selection includes kitchen staples and less common ingredients: fresh turmeric, purple sweet potatoes, samphire, physalis, salsify, Jerusalem artichokes, Roscoff onions, and microgreens. Golden beets, purple carrots, and different cabbages extend seasonal choices. The catalog serves both everyday grocery shopping and the search for an ingredient for a particular recipe.

Meat, dairy, bread, savory pies and pasties, herbs, preserves, and pantry products complete the offering. Listings include sourdough loaves, ciabatta, cheeses such as cheddar and Stilton, yogurt, flour, sugar, and nuts. The range connects a vegetable box with the rest of a meal rather than presenting the company solely as a produce retailer.

Recipes add context to the products: pork tenderloin with plums and rosemary, white-radish and apple slaw, and Padrón peppers with feta and lemon are published examples. Delivery keeps the connection with shopping to cook at home. Nearly Naked Veg’s story remains that of a fresh-produce service growing from a nearby community to wider distribution, with Plymouth as its base.
