About Dimitri's Restaurant

Dimitri's, Greek and Mediterranean cuisine in Manchester city centre

Dimitri's is an independent family-run restaurant specialising in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, located on Deansgate, in the heart of Manchester city centre, next to Castlefield. The venue has been serving both residents and visitors for over three decades and presents itself as a city institution. Its offering is built around a concept of home-style inspired cooking, closer to country kitchen than haute cuisine, with a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

Origins and history

The idea for the restaurant was born when Dimitri's uncle took him as a youngster to his first Greek meze bar, where he was served several small dishes. Since then, for Dimitri there is nothing better than a glass of wine accompanied by a variety of dishes to get a taste of everything. That approach has shaped the identity of the establishment, which defines itself as authentic, fun and not taking itself too seriously. The restaurant has grown from a single unit to five units within Campfield Arcade, and has more than 30 years of activity.

Spaces and capacity

The venue has distinct restaurant, bar and taverna areas. The most recent expansion included a larger taverna on the lower floor, allowing it to accommodate up to 300 diners and making it a suitable space for organising celebrations. The downstairs taverna is known for hosting large groups and parties. In addition, the outdoor arcade allows for alfresco dining even when it is cold, thanks to high-powered heaters. The decor includes checked tablecloths and a colourful atmosphere, with Hellenic music and occasional live performances on Saturdays in the late bar.

Food offering

The menu includes full meals, but the restaurant is especially known for its dips, tapas, Kalamata platters and mezes. Among the standout options is the Party Meze Menu, a Mediterranean banquet of dishes designed to be shared among large groups and celebrations in the downstairs taverna. The cuisine is described as Mediterranean with a strong Greek component.
