The Online Clinic is a UK online medical clinic founded in 2004 to provide consultations and treatments through a remote doctor-patient interface. The company presents itself as one of the most established online healthcare providers and operates under a licence from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). All of its doctors are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK.

How the consultation process works

The service is structured in three steps. First, the patient answers a questionnaire about their medical history. Then, a member of the medical team reviews the answers and recommends the appropriate medication. If the patient decides to proceed, the clinic prescribes online and sends the products from its pharmacy for next-day delivery.

The clinic operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Consultations submitted between 6:00 and 22:00 receive a response within 30 to 60 minutes; those submitted after 22:00 may not receive a reply until the following morning. The doctor may contact the patient through their personal dashboard to request additional information.

Most consultations are free of charge and without obligation to purchase. The clinic notes that some consultations are paid and that these cases are indicated before the patient enters into any payment commitment.

The clinic's catalogue covers more than 30 conditions. These include erectile dysfunction, weight loss, hair loss, contraceptives, sexual health, dental infections, influenza, cystitis, emergency contraception, menstrual delay, premature ejaculation, cholesterol, heartburn, skin complaints, eye and ear infections, hay fever, malaria, travellers' diarrhoea, jet lag, excess hair, stop smoking, fungal nail infection, asthma, thrush, bacterial vaginosis, genital warts, herpes, insomnia, HRT, migraine, pain management, alcohol treatment, sinusitis, tonsillitis, morning sickness, haemorrhoids and anal fissures, hyperhidrosis and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). It also offers diagnostic tests and a specialist referral service.

Diagnostic tests and delivery of treatments

The clinic offers a selection of diagnostic tests whose results are provided with a full laboratory report interpreted by a doctor. Treatments are dispensed for next-day delivery and, when the medication is considered clinically urgent, the clinic offers a same-day collection service at a local pharmacy in the patient's area.

Notice about medical emergencies

The clinic warns that it does not treat medical emergencies and that in an emergency, 999 should be called.
