About Cafe Rasa Malaysia

Halal Malaysian cuisine at Westfield Stratford City

Cafe Rasa Malaysia is a Malaysian restaurant located in the Great Eastern Market on the lower ground floor of Westfield Stratford City in London. Its offering focuses on traditional recipes cooked home-style, with a menu that combines classic dishes and some original creations. All the food it serves is 100% halal and made with fresh ingredients from local suppliers.

The venue presents itself as a space with a cosy atmosphere, with wheelchair-accessible seating, designed for both lunch and dinner as well as a quick stop with a Teh Tarik tea.

Most popular dishes and dietary options

Among the most notable preparations on its menu are roti canai, nasi lemak and kway teow goreng. The restaurant states that it has a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, and that some dishes can be prepared gluten-free on request, with a possible additional charge that must be indicated when placing the order.

History: from Penang to Stratford

The project stems from the career of Noor Azlina, born in Penang and with culinary influences from the state of Kedah. Her relationship with cooking began in the kampung, where her grandparents sold nasi lemak to factories around Butterworth. In 2011 she brought her dishes to the Bromley by Bow Centre in east London, and a year later she was invited by Matrade (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation) to showcase Malaysian cuisine at the Malaysian Night in Trafalgar Square, a collaboration she maintained until 2016.

In 2013, demand led to the creation of Azi's Kitchen and Catering, with cafés in Whitechapel and Roman Road Bow, which served both the community and private catering orders. In 2015 the business grew with the opening of Cafe Rasa Malaysia at Westfield Stratford City, which the company describes as its only café at present.

Catering for weddings and corporate events

The catering service is aimed at celebrations such as weddings and corporate events, with custom menus tailored to different dietary preferences. The company notes that it uses 100% certified halal, freshly prepared ingredients, and that it offers professional service and support during the event.

Rasa products and gift cards

In addition to the restaurant, the company has developed its own Rasa pastes and products, made in Malaysia to reproduce the country's classic and traditional flavours. According to its presentation, they have been reformulated to be healthier and suitable for people with allergies, so they can be used to cook Malaysian food at home. The shop also sells Cafe Rasa gift cards.

Orders, pickup and delivery

Orders can be placed for pickup through its pickup platform, or for delivery via the Deliveroo and UberEats platforms. The restaurant also allows table reservations to secure a spot.

Apprenticeship programme

The company has an apprenticeship programme aimed at high school students, focused on gaining hands-on hospitality experience and exploring career paths in the food and service sector.

Sustainability and ingredients

The kitchen combines fresh herbs and Rasa spices with cooking methods that the company describes as balanced, seeking to maintain traditional flavour. On sustainability, Cafe Rasa Malaysia states that it prioritises fresh ingredients with halal certification and minimises waste, and participates in the Westfield Stratford City green initiative.
