About Ottolenghi
Ottolenghi: restaurants, delis and a shop inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine
Ottolenghi is a British culinary group that began in 2002 with a small shop in Notting Hill, London. Founded by chefs Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi, the project started as a food shop, deli, restaurant and bakery, and over time it has expanded its activity without losing the connection to the cuisine that originated it.
Its culinary style draws on Middle Eastern and Mediterranean traditions, while also incorporating influences and ingredients from other origins. The house identifies as a hallmark its championing of vegetables and unusual ingredients, an approach that, according to its own presentation, some call “the Ottolenghi effect.”
Restaurants and delis
The group operates a network of restaurants and delis located mainly in London, as well as venues in other cities in the United Kingdom and abroad. Among the establishments cited are NOPI, ROVI, Richmond, Bicester Village, Hampstead, Islington, Spitalfields, Chelsea, Marylebone, Notting Hill, Edinburgh, Geneva and Amsterdam. The company allows table reservations at several of them through its website.
The dining offer is completed with catering services and the possibility of holding meals and events in its spaces, as stated on its catering page.
Online shop: hampers, bakery and pantry
Ottolenghi’s shop sells hampers and gifts, sweet and savoury bakery products, books and book hampers, a pantry collection, ingredients, drinks, tableware, bags and accessories, and gift vouchers. The catalogue also includes natural wines from Germany presented as ideal for sharing around the table.
Among the new items the website showed at the time of the analysis are the pantry nuts collection and the book Simple Too, available for pre-order along with a hamper that accompanies it. The shop indicated free UK shipping on orders including Serax products of £60 or more, and offers a London delivery service.
Recipes and editorial content
Ottolenghi maintains an online recipe collection organised by meals and courses — breakfast, brunch, salads, soups, mains, sides, dips and dressings, desserts, biscuits, cakes, baking, picnic, canapé/party food and drinks — by main ingredient — aubergine, pasta, rice, eggs, meat, chicken and fish — and by season or occasion — spring, BBQ, summer, midweek, weekend, Christmas, autumn and winter. It includes collections such as vegetarian, easy and comfort recipes.
The website also includes the Foodipedia section, dedicated to exploring ingredients such as artichoke, chickpeas, date, feta, gochujang, sumac, tahini and za’atar. Registered users can save and manage recipes, add notes and receive new recipes by email every week, as well as manage their online shop orders.
Publications and book tour
The company publishes cookbooks and organises a promotional tour around Simple Too, the new title announced on its website. The shop offers these books both separately and in combined hampers.
