About Kitchen Table London
Kitchen Table, two Michelin stars in Fitzrovia
Kitchen Table is a London restaurant that functions as a dining experience: guests sit at a horseshoe-shaped counter and watch James Knappett and his team prepare, serve, and talk diners through that evening's tasting menu. The restaurant opened in 2012, received one Michelin star in 2014, and achieved a second in 2018, a distinction it has held ever since. In 2018 it also received Michelin's Welcome and Service Award.
Modern British tasting menu
Each day, the team prepares a modern British tasting menu that changes according to what is available that evening, using meticulously sourced and foraged seasonal British ingredients. Each course focuses on a single ingredient — such as oyster, truffle, scallop, or deer — and seeks to amplify exceptional produce. That produce comes from James's long-trusted network of independent suppliers, the cornerstone of the restaurant since its opening, who sustainably source day boat fish, grow seasonally, and farm responsibly.
The restaurant serves its usual tasting menu and a vegetarian alternative. It can accommodate select allergies with at least one week's notice, but cannot cater for vegans, or for no egg, lactose-free or dairy-free, gluten-free or coeliac diets, or for guests who may suffer from anaphylactic shock due to cross contamination from ingredients in the kitchen.
Drinks: Grower Champagnes and house-made cocktails
The beverage program includes a wine pairing, a Champagne pairing, and a soft pairing. The wine list offers a world-leading selection of Grower Champagnes alongside wines by the bottle and the glass, whilst the bar menu riffs on house-made spirits and liqueurs. The restaurant's listing indicated the option to add a Grower Champagne pairing for £250 or a wine pairing for £175, or to choose drinks on the evening. Wines served at Kitchen Table can be purchased through its website.
A carefully planned experience
Every part of the visit is planned: guests are asked to arrive punctually at the Charlotte Street address at the time of their booking, and the experience begins in the Kitchen Table Lounge. The dress code is smart casual, with no hats or flip-flops. All reservations are non-refundable. Reservations are released for the entire month at once, three months in advance; if no seats are available on the chosen date, there is a waitlist.
Team and background
James Knappett trained in Cambridgeshire and spent formative years in the kitchens at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and Petrus, before working at Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurants, Thomas Keller's Per Se, and with René Redzepi at noma. The wine list is curated by award-winning sommelier Sandia Chang, Knappett's wife.
Reservations, events, and careers
The restaurant handles enquiries about upcoming reservations, large parties, and private hire through its reservations email. It holds some evenings for exclusive private hire and is sometimes able to facilitate requests for off-site events. For career applications it receives CVs by email, and press and PR enquiries are channelled through the agency Tonic Communications.
