About Bundobust
Bundobust: Indian street food and craft beer in the north of England
Bundobust is a hospitality and craft brewing company that combines Indian street food with beer of its own production. It was founded in 2014 in Leeds, on Mill Hill, and since then it has opened venues in Manchester Piccadilly (2016) and Liverpool (2019), as well as launching its own brewery, Bundobust Brewery, in Manchester in 2021.
The company presents itself as the creator of a concept that brings together vibrant Indian dishes and modern craft beer in casual, lively spaces. Its offering has spread to Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, and its slogan "Too Much Spicy" sums up that combination of food and drink.
Origins and history
Bundobust grew out of a collaboration between Mayur Patel and Marko Husak, two entrepreneurs from Bradford. Mayur was a chef at the family restaurant Prashad and Marko ran one of the first craft beer bars in the north of England, The Sparrow. After exchanging messages, they began organising pop-up events and dinners that allowed them to define the concept: fresh, flavour-packed dishes that could not be found in conventional Indian restaurants, accompanied by innovative beers in a relaxed bar atmosphere.
After a season of pop-ups at beer, food and music festivals, in the summer of 2014 they opened their first venue on Mill Hill, in Leeds city centre, with the addition of two chefs from Prashad, Maity and Gopi, who according to the company are still part of the team. The reception was good and in 2016 Manchester Piccadilly followed, then Liverpool in 2019 and their own brewery in 2021.
Food offering
The menu is based on reinterpretations of Indian street food classics such as chaat, vada pav, bhel and dhal, along with other creations such as okra fries. The dishes are designed for sharing and are served in a casual, communal dining setting. The company says it has introduced these preparations to new generations of food fans.
The offering is completed with craft beer, both of its own making and from other producers, and with seasonal specials. For example, the website announced for 2026 an Oktoberfest celebration with Bavar-Indian specials and Bundobust Brewery's Bundobar! Black Lager, as well as a "Lunch Express" menu of two dishes for £11.25, available Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 16:00.
Bundobust Brewery
The company has its own brewery in Manchester, Bundobust Brewery, which produces beers such as Bundobar! Black Lager, described as award-winning. The brewery makes the beers served in the brand's venues and has received recognition, including the "UK's Best Taproom" award at the SIBA Awards.
Awards and public profile
Bundobust has received various national awards, such as "Best Innovation" at the Casual Dining Awards, "Best Food Offering" at the Leeds Oliver Awards and "UK's Best Taproom" at the SIBA Awards. It has also appeared on Rick Stein's television programme, representing Yorkshire. The company describes itself as a positive force for independent hospitality.
