Tropic Coffee Ltd is a family-run coffee roasting business based in Norfolk (UK), founded by Martin in 1983 after several years of experience in the sector. His son David joined in 2006 and has since dedicated himself to roasting, blending and developing coffees. The company presents itself as a roaster, packer and blender with 42 years of experience in the private label sector, and operates as a wholesale supplier for businesses of all sizes nationwide.

Roasting method and equipment

Roasting is carried out with a late 1950s 76 kg Whitmee drum roaster, based on an open flame roasting method that the company describes as "Through the flame". The firm presents this equipment as a legacy of British engineering and associates it with a fuller flavour.

Coffee catalogue

The shop organises its range by taste, roast level, brew method and product type. Categories include coffees with chocolatey, citrusy, intense and roasty, nutty and spicy or earthy notes; light, medium, medium dark, dark and raw (unroasted) roasts; and methods such as Aeropress, cafetiere, espresso and filter.

The catalogue includes single origin references such as Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Grade 1, Indian Monsoon Malabar Karnataka, Jamaican Blue Mountain 100% Clydesdale Estate, Java Bayukidul Estate Grade 1, Brazilian Ipanema Bourbon, Hawaiian Kona and Kenya 'AA' Samburu Estate. It also offers its own blends such as Midnight Oil, Neon Drift, Obsidian, Sanctuary Signature Blend, Tropic's Mocha Italia Blend, Tropic's Italian Full Blend and Tropic's Continental Blend, as well as decaffeinated coffees such as Mexican Mountain Water in light and dark versions, and a limited edition Christmas Reserve. The company also sells unroasted green coffee for home roasting, Explorer coffee bags designed for the outdoors, matcha and tea, and equipment.

The company provides barista training for new and existing customers, both at its facilities and at the roastery itself.
