About Ticker
Ticker, a British insurer of telematics car and van insurance
Ticker is a UK-based car insurer that offers telematics insurance, also known as black box insurance. The company was founded in 2019 and has since insured over 200,000 drivers with connected motor policies. Its focus is on providing cover tailored to profiles that often struggle in the traditional market, such as new drivers, older drivers, low-mileage drivers, van drivers and drivers with previous convictions or bans.
Connected insurance products for different driver profiles
Ticker's range is organised into six main products, each aimed at a type of driver:
- New driver: for car drivers who have held a licence for less than five years.
- Older driver: for drivers over 65 looking to save money with connected insurance.
- Pay-per-mile: for low-mileage drivers who pay monthly for the miles they drive.
- Van: for van drivers over 18, with vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
- Electric vehicle: for electric cars, with cover for cables, chargepoints and personal injury.
- Convicted driver: for drivers looking for affordable insurance after a conviction or ban.
Telematics device and control app
The insurance works through a telematics device that sends driving data. Depending on the vehicle, the customer receives either a stick-on box or a device that plugs into the car's port. Both fit through the letterbox, so there is no need to wait for an in-person delivery, and users can install it themselves in seconds.
Policy management is done through the Ticker app. From it, customers can check driving feedback or mileage on pay-per-mile policies, make changes to their policy without needing to call, start a help chat or contact the claims team available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At renewal, the price is sent through the app for review and acceptance.
