About ResearchBench

UK statistical consultancy with named statisticians

ResearchBench is a UK-based statistical consultancy and research training provider. Its team consists of five named, qualified statisticians who analyse data you have already collected, train researchers and teams in SPSS and NVivo, and explain results in plain language so you can defend them in a viva, a board meeting or a funder report.

The company presents itself as an alternative to anonymous services: you know the name of the assigned statistician before approving the quote and communicate with them directly. Every project is quoted in writing before any work begins, and the agreed price is the final price.

Two service routes: researchers and organisations

ResearchBench structures its offering around two client profiles. For researchers and postgraduate students, it offers dissertation and thesis statistics, SPSS analysis with annotated output and reusable syntax, sample size and power calculations that ethics committees accept, and statistical review of results you have already written.

For organisations — including charities, universities, the NHS and businesses — it provides statistical consultancy, turns survey and questionnaire data into board-ready reports, and delivers NVivo and SPSS training to teams who want to do the work themselves. Invoicing supports purchase orders and invoices, with fixed quotes agreed before work begins.

Ten services with published prices

All services are delivered by email by one of the five statisticians. You approve a fixed quote first. The catalogue includes:

  • Statistical consultancy for charities, universities, the NHS and businesses: design, analysis and reporting you can present to a board or funder. From £950.
  • Dissertation statistics help: analysis of the data you collected, explained test by test so you can defend every number in a viva. From £95.
  • SPSS data analysis: annotated output, reusable syntax and APA-ready tables, with the reasoning behind each test. From £95.
  • NVivo training: one-to-one or team training on qualitative data, built around your own project rather than a demo dataset. Fixed quote.
  • Practical SPSS training for researchers and teams, with exercises drawn from your own discipline. Fixed quote.
  • Data cleaning and preparation: messy spreadsheets, missing values, duplicates and recoding, handled by a statistician. Fixed quote.
  • Power analysis and sample size: a priori analysis with the written justification an ethics committee or funder requires. From £180.
  • Academic CV review: line-by-line feedback for PhD applications and research posts, from an experienced academic. £95.
  • Qualitative coding: thematic and framework coding for interviews and open-text survey responses, with codebooks and inter-rater checks. Fixed quote.
  • Results chapter review: a statistician reviews the chapter you wrote — right tests, assumptions reported, claims proportionate — and provides feedback, never a rewrite. Fixed quote.

The five statisticians and their specialities

The company publishes full profiles of all five professionals, including qualifications, publications and software they master, so you know who will analyse your data before you send it.

  • Elaine Halliburton, Professor of Applied Statistics, PhD in Applied Statistics from Glasgow. Works in psychometrics, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling, hierarchical models and research methodology. She is a journal statistical reviewer. Over 20 years of experience; uses R, Mplus, Amos, Lisrel and SAS.
  • Sidra Khan, Lead Biostatistician, PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Birmingham. Specialises in clinical trials, epidemiology, longitudinal data and evidence synthesis. Over 10 years of experience; SAS, R, RevMan, CMA and Prism.
  • Tara Sutaria, Senior Statistical Analyst, PhD in Data Science from Southampton. Works in machine learning, predictive modelling and high-dimensional data for research and industry. Over 10 years of experience; Python, TensorFlow, scikit-learn and R.
  • Hafiz Ahmad Tariq, Senior Biostatistician, PhD in Biostatistics from Leeds. Experimental design, survival analysis, Bayesian and multilevel modelling, and structural equation modelling. Over 15 years of experience; R, Python, SPSS, Stata, SAS and Mplus.
  • Saad Tariq, Principal Statistician, PhD in Econometrics from Warwick. Econometrics, time-series forecasting, panel data and causal inference. Over 12 years of experience; R, Stata, EViews, Power BI and SQL.

How we work and what you receive

The process runs entirely in writing, with no calls required. You send the dataset or describe the project via a five-field form, without needing to create an account. The company responds with a fixed quote — usually within one working day — stating the assigned statistician, deliverables and timeline. Work does not begin until you approve it.

Every analysis is delivered with six elements: annotated output with every table labelled and every test justified; reusable syntax in SPSS, R or Stata; assumption checks (normality, homogeneity, multicollinearity) with any necessary caveats; tables formatted to APA or your journal's style; a plain-English explanation of what the result means; and answers to questions after delivery, including any that a supervisor or reviewer might raise, at no extra cost.

Case studies and free tools

The website features ten case studies described by the statistical problem rather than the client. These include predicting time to hospital readmission using Cox proportional hazards models on five years of health records, where censoring ruled out logistic regression; student performance between departments using multilevel modelling of 8,500 students, where ignoring clustering would have manufactured significance; and a meta-analysis of 45 studies with random-effects synthesis, meta-regression and publication bias tests, which supported a peer-reviewed article.

It also offers fourteen free calculators with no registration, designed for researchers who need an immediate answer. Each shows its working and provides a sentence you can paste into your text. The selection includes statistical tests, sample size, power, t-test, Mann-Whitney U, chi-square, odds ratio and relative risk, sensitivity and specificity, effect size, confidence interval, p-value, Z-score, APA results generator and PRISMA flow diagram.

Client reviews

The company shows an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 based on 78 reviews on Trustpilot. Testimonials highlight clarity in explaining each test, meeting deadlines, the quality of results tables, the usefulness of consultancy recommendations, support with power analysis for ethics applications, systematic qualitative coding and spotting issues in cleaning large datasets.
