About Osip

Osip, seasonal cooking and accommodation in the heart of Somerset

Osip is a small farm-to-table restaurant located in the heart of the Somerset countryside, in Bruton. It occupies a 300-year-old former country inn, surrounded by hills and at the foot of a pine forest, and combines its dining offering with four rooms located directly above the restaurant.

A culinary approach rooted in its surroundings

The menu evolves daily and is presented as an expression of the local landscape, made with produce grown on nearby farms and by the establishment's own team. No menu is handed out at the table: the experience consists of around eight courses, including a series of small snacks, several savoury dishes, desserts and petit fours. The tasting menu is priced at £175 per person; a three-course table d'hote menu is also offered at dinner for £75, and a five-course lunch menu for £105. Supplementary dishes are often added and can be chosen once seated at the table.

Drinks and pairings

The drinks offering includes a wine pairing tailored to each menu, with particular attention to small producers who farm responsibly, as well as West Country ciders and house soft drinks made with foraged and home-grown ingredients. A non-alcoholic pairing option is also available.

Accommodation and spaces

The establishment has four rooms, located directly above the restaurant, completing a holistic hospitality concept centred on food, drink, art and design. Guests can stay overnight, wander the gardens, tour the kitchen and enjoy a drink by the fire after dinner. It also has a private room for meals and celebrations, designed for sharing dishes and raising a glass, and a bar where the experience begins and where you can have an aperitif if you arrive before your reservation.

Reservations, times and conditions

Restaurant reservations are made via the website up to 120 days in advance. No deposit is required, but card details are requested and are only used in the event of a no-show or cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice; for groups of six or more, the notice period is 48 hours. Rooms can currently be booked up to 28 February 2027, and spring and summer 2027 rooms will be announced via the newsletter during the winter. Full payment for the room is taken at the time of booking and extras are settled on departure. Room cancellations can be changed up to fourteen days before arrival; after that date, 50% is refunded.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays. Dinner is served Tuesday to Sunday and lunch Thursday to Sunday. At dinner, tables are available at 18:30, 18:45, 19:30 and 19:45; lunch can be booked at 12:30 or 13:30. We recommend allowing three hours for lunch and three and a half hours for the full tasting menu.

Dietary requirements, children and other policies

Most dietary requirements can be accommodated, except vegan and dairy-free, with a minimum of 48 hours' notice and specifying the number of guests with each requirement. There is no children's menu: children are only admitted if they are old enough to eat and will follow the same menu as the rest of the table, and there is no capacity for non-dining companions. Dogs are not permitted in either the restaurant or the rooms, and there is no outdoor seating. The maximum group size in the restaurant is six people; for private events or exclusive hires, please contact us in advance. There is no dress code. Corkage is offered at £55 per bottle, with advance notice required. There is disabled access in the restaurant, but not in the rooms. The on-site car park has space for 20 cars.

Surroundings and access

The establishment is in a rural area, so it recommends booking a taxi in advance, as there is no Uber service and local availability is limited. It offers complimentary transfers subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis, which appear as an option when booking a room. Castle Cary station is about a 15-minute taxi ride away and Bruton station about 4 minutes. From central London, the drive takes around three hours, and from Bristol, approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
