Barry Island Spirits Co & Môr

A walk with Darcy, their black Labrador, along the Barry Island coast gave Claire and Tim the idea of creating their own gin. Barry Island Spirits Co grew from a product initially intended for their bar, Craft Republic, into a collection of Welsh spirits. It remains a family business, with its own recipes inspired by its Vale of Glamorgan surroundings.

Welsh Dry Gin, Pink Dry Gin, spiced rum, and organic Welsh vodka form the core range. Production combines botanicals with Welsh water from the Brecon Beacons. Bottles introduced with a custom design in 2021 bring together different styles for gin and tonics, rum drinks, or vodka-based cocktails.

Môr, its wine bar and bottle shop, is currently at 96 High Street, Barry. The shelves offer wines selected by the owners alongside the brand’s spirits. The space provides two ways to approach the collection: take a bottle home or enjoy a drink in the bar during its on-site serving hours.

The wine collection makes room for Welsh producers. St Hilary, Great House, and Dell Vineyard are among the offerings, with styles such as Seyval Blanc and Yr Afanc. That local presence shares shelf space with wines from France, Italy, Spain, and the United States, allowing shoppers to explore nearby winemaking before broadening the journey.

The international selection includes Lambrusco, orange wines, Gewürztraminer, and rosés, alongside labels such as Calmel & Joseph, Picoron, and Trefethen. Môr’s tastings introduce different bottles in a shared gathering. Experience vouchers offer another way to give a visit, while the calendar identifies events and available spaces.

Gift boxes gather gin, rum, or vodka in different formats, with miniature bottles for exploring the range. The shop includes upcycled glassware and handles corporate gifts and distribution inquiries. Online orders offer mainland Great Britain delivery and store pickup, connecting the shop’s collection with buyers elsewhere.

The bar serves groups of fewer than ten on a walk-in basis; reservations are intended for larger groups. The space can also be hired privately. Barry Island Spirits Co and Môr form one story on two scales: recipes tied to the Welsh coast and a shop-bar where those drinks sit alongside wines from diverse origins.
