About Squiggle Consult

Squiggle Consult: estate planning to protect your family

Squiggle Consult is a British independent consultancy firm specialising in estate planning. Its team advises on wills, trusts, lasting powers of attorney and probate, with the aim of helping clients organise their estate and protect their loved ones. The company presents itself as a straightforward, approachable alternative to the usual complexity of the legal sector.

Estate planning services

Squiggle Consult's main activity covers four areas: wills, trusts, lasting powers of attorney and probate. The firm states that it offers transparent advice at competitive prices, and that before proposing any option it analyses the different scenarios with the client to determine the most suitable solution. The website catalogue shows that a will for one person starts from £295, VAT included, and that fees are fixed and personalised, so the client knows the cost at every stage of the process.

A process designed around the client

The working method described by the company begins with a meeting with the client, preferably at their home, to understand their circumstances and wishes. From there, the preferred option is chosen, the documents are drafted for approval, signed, audited and registered, and, if the client requests it, the documents are stored on their behalf. The firm stresses that it cuts out legal jargon, works at the client's pace and allows services to be added when convenient.

Client profile

The website lists situations in which its services are relevant: people who need to make a will, those who have or plan to start a business, those preparing to pass their business on to family, those who have or are expecting children, those who wish to set up a legacy plan, those who want to ensure their family is cared for after their death, and those going through divorce or separation.

Team and experience

The team is led by Kieran Osborne, chief executive officer, who began his career as a business relationship manager at Lloyds Bank and was made redundant in 2017. After being recruited by an accountancy firm to open its legal department, he became interested in estate planning and founded Squiggle in June 2017. He has experience in wills, probate and complex tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, as well as working with regulated financial advisers through trusted partners.

Anna Barker, operations director, comes from the charity sector, where she was a regional manager and managed large teams across several regions with strict compliance standards. Jodie Kjelstrup, technical director and estate planning consultant, worked for several years as an account manager and financial consultant in the financial services sector before joining the team. Brandy Arnold, office manager, was born in Scotland, grew up on the Isle of Wight and settled in Kent; she spent 17 years in the education sector and trained as a Forest School leader.

Approach and self-regulation

The firm acknowledges that its sector is unregulated, but states that it self-regulates by following the standards required of financial advisers. Squiggle Consult presents itself as a company built on efficiency, simplicity and putting the client first, and maintains that its aim is to support people throughout the entire estate planning process, from initial advice to ongoing support for family members afterwards.
