Products and cover options

Petgevity's range is built around lifetime insurance for dogs and cats, with specific variants for puppies, older dogs, kittens and multi-pet policies. The company also offers a product called Lifetime Plus, aimed at animals with pre-existing medical conditions.

• Dog insurance: vet fee limit of up to £15,000, optional extras and third-party liability cover of up to £2 million.
• Cat insurance: vet fee limit of up to £15,000, no compulsory bill share or excess, and optional extras.
• Multi-pet insurance: a single policy can cover up to eight pets, with configurable limits, excess and extras for each animal.

Cover included and additional services

Petgevity policies include vet fee cover with annual limits that the customer can choose between £1,000 and £15,000, renewable each year. Standard cover includes accidents and illnesses, as well as treatments such as complementary therapy, behavioural treatment, dental accidents, euthanasia, CT or MRI scans up to £2,000 and cruciate ligaments up to £2,000. For dogs, third-party liability cover is included.

The insurer also allows optional add-ons:

Pre-existing conditions and acceptance policy

One of the company's distinguishing features is that it accepts animals with pre-existing medical conditions. Through the Lifetime Plus policy, Petgevity considers cover for a wide range of conditions, provided they are declared when requesting a quote. The company does not impose upper age limits for older dogs or senior cats, which broadens access for older animals.

Typical exclusions

As is common in the sector, Petgevity policies do not cover routine or preventative treatments. Exclusions include flea and worming treatments, primary or booster vaccinations, neutering (spaying and castration), routine scale and polishes, and routine or investigative tests, unless they are to diagnose a new or worsening condition covered by the policy.

The insurer has received several industry awards. It achieved a Defaqto 5 star rating when vet fees over £4,000 are chosen with all optional add-ons included; basic cover alone has 3 stars. It was named best pet insurer at the National Insurance Awards in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and received the best pet insurer award at the Times Money Mentor Awards 2024, as well as a special mention at the Personal Finance Awards 2025. The company is also rated excellent on Trustpilot.

Customer service and policy management

Petgevity allows policy management online and claims to be made through its website. The company offers the option to pay the vet directly, so the policyholder does not have to pay upfront.
