About The Torridon
The Torridon, a five-star boutique resort in the Scottish Highlands
The Torridon is a family-owned five-star boutique resort located in Wester Ross, in the Scottish Highlands. The property presents itself as a secluded retreat in a natural setting of mountains, sea lochs and open skies, combining accommodation, dining and outdoor activities all in one place.
Accommodation in three distinct spaces
The accommodation offering is spread across three options. The Hotel has 18 individually designed rooms and suites. The Stables is described as a cosy alternative to the hotel accommodation. The Boathouse is a private waterside retreat with views. Booking direct includes, according to the property, the best rate and complimentary Scottish breakfast throughout your stay. Gift vouchers for stays and experiences are also available.
Food and drink
The dining offering includes the 1887 restaurant, with ever-changing menus inspired by the kitchen garden, and the Bo & Muc brasserie, elegant yet relaxed in style, with seasonal dishes. The resort also has The Whisky Bar, The Beinn Bar and afternoon tea service. The kitchen is led by chef Danny Young. Resort residents can book a table via a unique link included in their confirmation email, which means no separate deposit is required for dinner.
Own produce and suppliers
The property maintains its own kitchen garden and farm, where it raises Highland cattle, chickens and Tamworth pigs, and works with Macbeth's Butchers to guarantee the provenance of the meat. The company states that it personally selects its suppliers, both local and further afield, from Highland fabrics to your first-morning coffee.
Activities and natural surroundings
Under the Wellness Without Walls concept, the resort offers outdoor activities through Torridon Outdoors, as well as hiking and exploring the surrounding area. The estate also hosts celebrations and events, weddings, Christmas and Hogmanay stays, and has dog-friendly spaces, including Chestnut Cottage with a private garden and The Stables.
History and character of the property
The original building was a hunting lodge built by the first Earl of Lovelace, at a time when Scottish holiday homes became fashionable, and the resort champions the pioneering figure of Ada Lovelace. The property has been restored and is presented as a family project. The property is part of PoB Hotels and Relais & Châteaux, and has its own tartan, The Torridon Tartan.
Sustainability and team
The company states that it integrates sustainability, community and excellence into every aspect of its operation, and presents itself as a guardian of the natural surroundings in which it is located. The team is described as a close-knit group experienced in Highland hospitality.
