Granite vessels for winemaking
Ànforum grew out of a research and development project involving companies in Galicia's wine industry. It designs and manufactures egg-shaped granite vessels for winemaking, combining stonework and technology as an alternative to wooden barrels.
How the vessels are intended to work
Ànforum says the oval granite design allows controlled micro-oxygenation that helps avoid reductive notes, keeps temperatures steadier, and encourages the wine to move naturally, keeping lees in suspension. The vessels can be used for maceration, fermentation, and aging on the lees, with the aim of expressing the wine's place of origin.
Development
The company presented a larger vessel in November 2020. Its website has covered wines aged in granite vessels developed in Valga and Blanco Granito from Pazo Torre Penelas, which it describes as the first wine fermented and aged in Galician granite.
