AINIA organizes its services into six main areas:

• Quality and safety: Natural preservatives and antimicrobials; rapid detection methods; detection of microbial contamination; hygienic equipment and facility design; studies of virucidal, bactericidal, and fungicidal efficacy; surface cleaning and disinfection; microbiological models; new preservation technologies; foreign-body detection sensors; and regulatory monitoring through LEXAINIA.
• Ingredients and food: Functional foods and ingredients; food-law consulting; product reformulation; new processing methods; extraction of natural compounds and active ingredients (FSC); food, biomass, and precision fermentation; protein ingredient production; plant-based foods; probiotics; and European authorization procedures.
• Beauty, health, and wellness: Development of bioactive ingredients for cosmetics and personal care; ingredients for pharmaceutical products; in-vitro dynamic digestion and cell-culture testing; studies of colonic microbiota modulation; and population-level precision nutrition.
• Sustainability and circular economy: Life-cycle assessment and environmental footprint analysis; byproduct recovery; biofertilizers and biopesticides; biogas, biomethane, and biohydrogen; biorefineries; wastewater treatment; packaging eco-design and recyclability; biogas plant feasibility; functional natural extracts; food loss and waste; and efficient, circular water use.
• Packaging and materials: Food-contact-material (FCM) consulting and regulatory advice; active packaging design; more sustainable packaging; strength testing; package-product interaction studies; materials for functional packaging; functional and convenience design; and integrated PPWR services.
• Consumers and markets: Market research for innovation; sensory studies, including CLT, HUT, and neuroscience, with a trained panel; and a digital consumer observatory.

AINIA Digital

Digital solutions include Advanced Vision, Digitalization, CHEMInspector, Crop Inspection Platform, Digital Food Factory, Digital Transformation Consulting, data spaces, Food Alert, Food Safety Analytics, HEALTHscan, New Product Development (NPD), NIRSpector, TERMOSEAL, and VISpector.

Industrial Services and Laboratories

Industrial services include supercritical CO2 extraction through Altex, extrusion, and microencapsulation. Laboratory services cover microbiology, including hygiene indicators, spoilage organisms, pathogens, microorganism identification, viruses, and pharmacopoeia; physicochemical testing for additives, allergens, physical and chemical characterization, process contaminants, metals, mycotoxins and natural toxins, nutrition, pesticides, and veterinary residues; and packaging materials, including food-contact suitability, characterization, and overall and specific migration.

AINIA also provides technical assistance and studies such as 24-hour alerts, crisis management, challenge testing, analytical control plan design, shelf-life studies, and interlaboratory comparisons.

Analytical Technologies

Its analytical capabilities include calorimetry; microbiological characterization using molecular biology and culture; chromatography; metabolomics and volatilomics; metagenomics; spectrometric and immunological methods; and texture and rheology testing. Microencapsulation capabilities include chemical processes, fluid-bed coating and granulation, and atomization technologies. Water treatment services use tangential membrane filtration, advanced oxidation technologies, and electrochemical processes.

R&D, Innovation, and Industries

AINIA conducts in-house R&D and open innovation, supports technology-based companies and investees, and operates LaCocina de Innovación. Its target industries include agri-food, cosmetics, packaging, and chemicals.

AINIA Network connects member companies with resources such as newsletters, legislative updates and summaries, reports and presentations, market studies, and regulatory inquiries.
