Moalia is a family-owned importer and exporter of fresh tuna, especially sashimi-grade yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) caught by artisanal fishers using handlines in the Indian Ocean. The company has operated since 1994 and describes itself as one of Europe's leading fresh-tuna importers.

Products

• Sashimi-grade H&G tuna: fresh, with the head and tail removed; pieces from 40 kg; packed in 70–100 kg lots; sourced from the Indian Ocean.
• Super-sashimi tuna loin, white cloth wrap: fresh, vacuum-packed, skinless, bloodline-free, and boneless; 2–5 kg pieces in 12–14 kg boxes.
• Super-sashimi tuna loin, green paper wrap: the same product specifications as the white-wrap loin, packaged in green paper.
• Whole swordfish: whole and gutted, with head and tail; sourced from Sri Lanka and Spain; pieces over 25 kg.
• Monkfish tails: belly flap removed; sourced from Spain; pieces from 2 kg; packed in 10–12 kg boxes; seven-day shelf life from packing.

Moalia also distributes other fresh fish, including swordfish, grouper, mahi-mahi, and snapper. Its products contain no artificial colors or additives.

Sourcing and Sustainability

The tuna comes from the Maldives, where it is caught by handline from traditional boats called dhonis. The company says it respects seasonal cycles and complies with catch certificates and European Union health regulations.

Company History

Pierre and J-F Bodin founded Moalia in Murcia in 1994. The Bodin family made its first air shipments of fresh yellowfin tuna to the Rungis market in 1989 and was among the first to sell vacuum-packed fresh tuna loins from the Indian Ocean in the early 1990s. The business is now run by the family's third generation.
