Zalaque
Zalaque brings a shareable, modern menu to Montijo, pairing Extremaduran cured meats and cheeses with grilled cuts, seafood, burgers, and a broad wine selection.
About Zalaque
A table built for sharing in Montijo
Zalaque’s menu moves comfortably between a Spanish-style spread of small plates and a more substantial grill. The opening dishes include Iberian cured meats, regional cheeses, croquettes, eggplant in tempura, and burrata tartare with truffle; from there, the kitchen turns to seafood, aged beef, Iberian pork, and lamb. It is a wide-ranging menu, but the strongest thread is its attention to ingredients associated with Extremadura, from the cured meats to cheeses and local olive oil.
Burgers give the restaurant a more casual counterpoint. The house combinations use beef blends, cheese, bacon, and house sauces, with potato rolls supplied by Juanito’s Baker; several can be ordered with gluten-free bread. That range makes Zalaque suitable for a group with different appetites, while the shareable plates encourage a meal that unfolds over several courses rather than a single main dish.
Regional character, with room for a modern palate
The drinks list reinforces the mix: Estrella Galicia arrives unpasteurized directly from the brewery, and the wine selection ranges across Extremaduran labels and other Spanish regions. Zalaque is not trying to serve a narrowly traditional menu. Instead, it uses familiar local products as a foundation for a contemporary restaurant in Montijo, with room for a long lunch, a shared dinner, or a burger-focused meal.
