About Cervesa Poch's
From a homebrewing hobby to a family brewery
Cervesa Poch’s is a family craft brewery in Castellfollit de la Roca, Girona. In 2012, after eight years of brewing at home, Francesc Casaponsa turned his hobby into a business. The range has grown from approachable beers to more complex, barrel-aged releases; the Volcanic Soul series began in 2024.
Beers
The brewery makes several styles, including:
- Blat: a golden, German-style Hefeweizen brewed with top-fermenting yeast. It has a mild ripe-banana fruit note and low bitterness, making it an accessible introduction to craft beer.
- Classic Lager: a red-hued German-style bottom-fermented beer, dry and easy to drink, with a grain note and little bitterness.
- Basalt: a black English-style Imperial Stout with medium-to-full body and a balance of roasted cocoa and coffee notes, bitterness, and aroma. Alcohol: 9.5%; bitterness: 110 IBUs. It won a gold medal at Bruna del Pirineu.
- Bruna del Pirineu: a top-fermented Belgian Strong Ale, toasted in color and full-bodied, dry with caramel notes and restrained bitterness. The malt stands out more than the hops. Alcohol: 10.2%.
Brewery and visits
The premises have two parts: a tasting shop open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, and the brewing area, which can be visited by appointment. The brewery now has six fermenters with a maximum capacity of 1,500 liters, up from the two 300-liter fermenters it started with. A temperature-controlled space is used to age beer in wooden barrels, both new and previously used for spirits, other fermented drinks, or even maple syrup.
