GremiCarn

Representing Catalonia's artisan meat trades

GremiCarn is a professional association that represents and defends the interests of the artisan meat sector in the provinces of Barcelona, Tarragona, and Lleida. Its members include butcher shops and charcuteries, and the association provides practical support for their businesses.

Services for members

Services include tax, employment, and legal advice, as well as help with energy, grants, and communications. GremiCarn also manages vocational training, including dual vocational training programs for aspiring butchers and charcutiers in partnership with hospitality schools. Its promotional campaigns include “El sentit de la carn” (“The Meaning of Meat”) and “La Ruta dels Sabors Catalans” (“The Catalan Flavors Trail”). The association also organizes industry events and national meat-product competitions.

Training and promoting the craft

Through Fundació Oficis de la Carn, GremiCarn supports training and recognition of the trade. It works with organizations such as IRTA and takes part in events including CharcutExpo and Gastronomic Forum Barcelona. The association publishes the magazine “Carnissers Xarcuters Catalunya” and offers short training modules on sales techniques, communications, and visual merchandising.

Industry representation

GremiCarn serves as a liaison with public agencies and other organizations. It advocates for the sector on regulatory matters, including rules for collective-meal menus and Verifactu regulations, and maintains agreements with financial institutions such as Banc Sabadell to offer benefits to members. The association is chaired in Barcelona by Mireia Sellarès and has a secretary general, Gemma González.
