About Valldures

Community food buying in Vallcarca

Valldures is a self-managed agroecological food-buying group based in Barcelona’s Vallcarca neighborhood. It began in 2009 to help households buy healthy, locally sourced food together through direct and fair relationships with producers. The group celebrated its 10th anniversary in October 2019, marking more than a decade of activity.

How the group works

Members organize purchasing and distribution themselves, without intermediaries. Relationships with producers are central to the model, and the group’s website has a section dedicated to them. One producer it features is L'Hort de l'Eriçó, an organic vegetable farm in Sant Boi de Llobregat, within the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat, which grows vegetables using agroecological methods.

Recipes and news

The group’s blog features announcements, seasonal recipes made with the products it distributes, and news from its producers. One example is a sweet-potato and apple soup recipe published when sweet potatoes arrive in the fall. The blog also includes commemorative materials, such as a picture-story marking the group’s 10th anniversary and looking back at its history.

Neighborhood connections

Valldures links to neighborhood organizations and related initiatives, including agroecological food cooperatives such as Pinyol Vermell in Vila de Gràcia and Trementinaires, as well as neighborhood groups, cultural centers, and local social-economy projects.
