About La Cebolla Roja
Shared local food buying in Barcelona
La Cebolla Roja is a self-managed, assembly-based organic food-buying group in Barcelona. It operates as a responsible-consumption cooperative, combining orders from multiple households so members can buy organic and locally sourced products directly from producers.
How it works
The group distributes weekly orders every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the courtyard of Can Basté Civic Center in the Nou Barris neighborhood. Its base is at 274 Passeig de Fabra i Puig. People interested in learning about the project are asked to email ahead and arrange a time to hear about it.
Products and suppliers
- Local agroecological products from Aurora del Camp, a producer in the Maresme area.
- Organic olive oil from Oliflix, a small mill brought back into operation after years of inactivity.
- Organic cheese from Formatges Pujol.
- Organic bread made with different flours, including gluten-free recipes.
Activities
Along with distributing orders, the group organizes cooking and organic-bread workshops, cheese tastings, and visits to producers. These have included free guided tours of the Oliflix mill during the winter harvest. The activities introduce participants to direct work on the farm and the origins of the food they buy.
