Tres Cadires Cooperativa

Artisan spirits with roots in Arbeca

Tres Cadires Cooperativa is a nonprofit local-development cooperative in Arbeca, in western Catalonia. It makes artisan liqueurs and vermouths. The project began in 2016 by reviving Vi de Nous, a traditional walnut liqueur, and has since added products it presents as firsts in their categories in Catalonia.

Liqueurs and vermouths

• Vi de Nous: the traditional walnut liqueur that launched the project in 2016.
• Nyons: a sloe liqueur, also known as pacharán.
• Caràcter: presented as Catalonia’s first organic vermouth.
• Caràcter Reserva: a reserve vermouth recognized with awards for innovative vermouths.
• NVA: a ratafia described as the first organic version without refined sugar.
• Gin 3K: a newer gin in the range.

Production takes place in the cooperative’s Arbeca workshop with local, organic, and self-harvested ingredients. Tres Cadires uses returnable containers and has an online store.

A shared workshop and local activities

Beyond making its own products, Tres Cadires shares its workshop with other food and agriculture projects seeking social change. It also works on agroecological projects in the area and holds tastings, pairing events, and workshops in Arbeca. The cooperative has received the Empresa Artesana artisan-business distinction.

Community and cooperative network

About 200 people belong to its Comunidad Corresponsable, a community that supports responsible purchasing and takes part in an annual gathering. Members can have bottles delivered or collect them at that event. Tres Cadires belongs to Ponent Coopera, the Xarxa d’Economia Solidària, and the Federació de Cooperatives de Treball; it is listed on Pam a Pam and completes the Balanç Social social-impact assessment.
