Delaire Graff Estate: hospitality, wine and art in the Cape Winelands

Delaire Graff Estate is a luxury destination located on the Helshoogte Pass, between the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, in South Africa. Created by diamantaire Laurence Graff OBE, the estate brings together accommodation, dining, a winery, a spa and boutiques in a scenic setting that the company itself describes as "the jewel of the Cape Winelands". The estate presents itself as a place devoted to beauty in its many forms, inspired by the landscape, culture and nature of its surroundings.

Accommodation: lodges and private villa

The accommodation offering is divided into several categories. The Garden Lodges are 70 m² one-bedroom Deluxe Lodges with a pool, living room and garden views. The Luxury Lodges, also 70 m² and one-bedroom, feature a pool, living room and Table Mountain views. The Superior Lodges, 76 m² and one-bedroom, have a heated pool and private deck. Presidential Lodge 1 and 2 are 130 m² two-bedroom lodges with a pool, living area and private deck; the first offers Table Mountain views and the second Simonsberg mountain views. The Owner's Villa is a 660 m² two-level, four-bedroom residence with an infinity pool and private chef. The estate offers a private transfer service for Lodge and Villa guests.

Restaurants and dining

The estate has several dining venues. Delaire Graff Restaurant is the signature restaurant, serving creative bistro fare with views over the Banghoek Valley from its terrace. Hōseki offers contemporary Japanese cuisine with Head Chef Virgil Kahn and Table Mountain views. Lorenzo's is an intimate Italian restaurant surrounded by greenery, whose menu includes antipasti such as burrata caprese, wood-fired pizzas with fresh truffle and handmade pasta such as basil and ricotta tortellini. The estate also has spaces for private dining and events.

Winery and wines

Delaire Graff Estate presents itself as one of the most prestigious wineries in the world, capitalising on the long ripening season and the unique terroir of the area to produce an award-winning portfolio of wines. The winery offers guided tasting experiences in its Wine Lounge, as well as online sales with shipping to the United States, Europe (including the United Kingdom) and South Africa. The company has agents and distributors for its wines worldwide. Among its wines, Laurence Graff Reserve 2021 stands out, made by winemaker Morné Vrey together with viticulturist Kallie Fernhout and the winery team, described as one of the most recognised and sought-after New World wines.

Spa and wellness

The Delaire Graff Spa presents itself as a sanctuary devoted to physical and spiritual wellness, inspired by the beauty and serenity of the surrounding nature. Its offering includes facials, massages, body therapies and wellness programmes, as well as personalised spa packages. South African residents can purchase spa products online. The estate also offers a combined spa and dining experience.

Boutiques, art and gardens

The estate houses boutiques with international luxury brands, including the only Graff store on the continent, alongside 100% Capri and a store in the spa. The art collection, selected by Laurence Graff from his private collection, brings together more than 400 pieces of art and sculpture displayed throughout the interior and gardens of the estate. The company also runs Giving Back initiatives.

Accolades and location

Delaire Graff Estate has received two MICHELIN Keys, which recognise an experience of distinction, and the company states it has received numerous awards across every facet of the estate. It was also named Best Accommodation in South Africa at the Best of Wine Tourism awards. The estate is located approximately 50 minutes from Cape Town International Airport and presents itself as a base for discovering the Cape Winelands. The winery reopened its doors after a renovation presented as "A Jewel Re-Imagined".
