Maskay guide

Where can you try Veronese food after visiting the Verona Arena?

Torcolo keeps the trolley of boiled and roasted meats; Tre Marchetti offers regional dishes and a wide wine list a short walk from the amphitheatre.

The Verona Arena has dominated Piazza Bra for almost two thousand years. After circling its Roman seating, a meal can continue the local story without settling for the first visible terrace on the square. A short walk away, Ristorante Torcolo Verona builds its identity around a trolley of boiled and roasted meats; Trattoria Tre Marchetti Verona interprets Veneto food on a street almost touching the amphitheatre. Both invite a proper pause: neither is a grab-and-go stop before another attraction.

Separate a daytime visit from an opera night

The Arena is both monument and performance venue. Concert and opera schedules can affect access and available time, and the foundation advises arriving ahead of a show. For a daytime visit, both restaurants serve lunch from 12:00 to 14:30 and reopen for dinner at 19:00. Leaving the seating at 16:00 leaves a gap with no kitchen service at these tables. If attending a performance, eating first or confirming a special late service is safer; a restaurant’s reference to late opera nights is not a fixed daily timetable.

Two ways to put Veneto on the plate

Torcolo is at 11 Via Carlo Cattaneo. According to the family running it, the trolley of boiled and roasted meats has been its speciality for decades. Traditional sauces including pearà give a specific reason to sit down, and a large cellar lets you pair the meal with local wine. Visitors often praise the trolley and atmosphere, though some question the pace or value. It is near Piazza Bra but should not be confused with Hotel Torcolo or another similarly named ordering website.

Tre Marchetti, at 19/B Via Tre Marchetti, offers region-led dishes and a list of more than 1,200 wines, according to its official site. The restaurant includes a room designed as a visual experience with light and colour. Reviews frequently praise the decor and food, with occasional reservations about service details. Its website mentions special openings on some opera nights; confirm the date before planning a late dinner. If boiled meats are the goal, Torcolo answers more directly; for several regional dishes and wines, Tre Marchetti starts a different conversation.

The route can then continue towards Castelvecchio or through the streets leading to Piazza delle Erbe. Before booking, read the current menus and Arena schedule: fit the meal around the visit or performance rather than assuming a kitchen will be open at any point in the walk.

Bottom line

Choose Torcolo for boiled meats and pearà; Tre Marchetti for a broader exploration of Veronese cooking and wine.
