G3—Get Skilled, Get a Job, Get Ahead—helps pay for Virginia public community-college programs in six high-demand sectors: education, healthcare, information technology, public safety, manufacturing/skilled trades, and hospitality/culinary arts. It can apply to approved degrees, certificates, and noncredit workforce credentials.
Core rules require Virginia residency and in-state tuition eligibility, total household income at or below 400% of the federal poverty level, and enrollment in an approved program. Credit programs generally require FAFSA or the applicable aid form and at least six credits; noncredit short courses may use income or benefit documentation. Not every program in a field qualifies: check the exact campus listing.
Aid is calculated last-dollar after other federal/state support and may cover tuition, fees, and approved expenses depending on pathway; it is not a uniform check. 2025–26 figures show both credit programs and noncredit workforce courses participate. Campus materials can vary on covered expenses; request a line-item estimate and ask whether books or certification tests are excluded.
Find an active G3 program and apply to one of the 23 VCCS colleges. File FAFSA for credit programs, or income/benefit documentation for certain short credentials; the office will identify additional forms. Get advising before enrolling and confirm both program and campus are listed for the current year because offerings are reviewed against regional workforce needs.
Before accepting an aid package, compare your individual notice with the bill and ask what happens if you change enrollment, major, or campus. Read the program profile and consult the administering agency; your institution’s financial-aid office confirms your individual determination.

Information checked on October 12, 2026 against official sources. Deadlines for the 2026–27 cycle have passed for several programs; they are identified as past dates where relevant. Eligibility does not guarantee funding: confirm the academic year, your file, and net cost with the program and your campus financial-aid office.
G3 funds specific programs, not every course or degree at a community college; confirm program code, credits, and remaining cost with the campus.
