In Virginia Beach, Tidewater Community College’s largest campus places a public two-year college within reach of career training, university transfer, English-language study and health-profession programs. The site is not a single building: 13 buildings share one address on College Crescent, from the Bayside admissions offices to the science facilities, the Joint-Use Library and the Student Center. A useful visit begins with a clear question: which credential are you pursuing, what will it cost at your residency rate, and where must you take the classes?
TCC’s general application is free and online. The published standard for general admission is a high-school diploma or equivalent, or age 18 or older with the ability to benefit academically from college study. After applying, a new student can attend a Next Steps to Enroll session to sort out advising, placement, registration and the first schedule. Some programs impose their own prerequisites, deadlines and competitive selection, so admission to the college alone does not secure a place in nursing, radiography or occupational therapy assistant training. Students who are not pursuing a credential should check financial-aid eligibility before enrolling as non-degree-seeking; TCC says that status does not qualify for aid.
English placement is a separate part of the path. TCC says students whose first language is not English need an ESL placement test. The test helps determine the appropriate starting level; it is not an admission exam. Day and evening ESL classes and counseling are offered at Virginia Beach Campus. The building map locates a Language Lab and Math Lab in Lynnhaven and English computer labs in Pungo, while learning-assistance services are also based in Lynnhaven. These resources can help a student strengthen language skills while preparing for regular coursework. Ask an ESL adviser whether a class carries college credit, what level follows the placement result and when the next section meets before building a tuition plan.
The Virginia Beach campus is a strong option for students comparing health-care training because several TCC program pages name this location and publish a course sequence. Practical Nursing is a 45-credit certificate planned across three semesters. Occupational Therapy Assistant is a 67-credit Associate of Applied Science laid out over five semesters. Radiography is a 72-credit Associate of Applied Science listed for six semesters. The three programs have selective or separate admission steps; applicants need to review program-specific prerequisites and deadlines rather than relying only on the general application. Their listed calendars are planning guides, not individual guarantees: prerequisite completion, clinical schedules, course availability and part-time enrollment can extend the path. The campus program finder also shows offerings such as paralegal studies, phlebotomy, personal training and selected technology and skilled-trade programs, but the listed location should be checked for each credential.
For 2026–27, the published Virginia-resident rate is $207.10 per credit hour, including required per-credit fees. Fifteen credits at that rate total $3,106.50 before course-specific charges. The posted out-of-state rate is $452.70 per credit hour, or $6,790.50 for 15 credits. TCC First Day adds $22.50 per credit for required course materials from summer 2026 unless the student opts out by the refund drop deadline. TCC adds $25 per credit for healthcare courses and $12.50 per credit for selected skilled-trades, agriculture and natural-resources courses. At 15 credits, TCC First Day materials add $337.50 unless you opt out by the deadline. Add those charges before comparing a certificate with a longer associate degree, and verify your residency classification with the college: it can materially change the bill.
Several kinds of aid may lower the amount due. TCC directs applicants to complete the federal FAFSA, which the college uses to assess federal and state grants and other aid; its federal school code is 003712. TCC and its Educational Foundation award scholarships each year, most worth at least $500, and the college requires a FAFSA before a scholarship application. Virginia residents in eligible programs may qualify for G3, a last-dollar grant that can fill remaining tuition, fee and book costs after other grants are counted. The state pathway also has financial, residency, program and minimum-enrollment requirements, including Virginia in-state tuition eligibility, household income at or below 400% of the federal poverty level, an approved G3 program, FAFSA completion, financial-aid eligibility and at least six credits in a semester. Students who complete an associate degree and transfer to an eligible Virginia four-year institution can ask about the Two-Year College Transfer Grant, which may provide up to $2,000 annually. Use the college’s current financial-aid pages to confirm deadlines and eligibility before counting on an award.
The campus makes it possible to handle several parts of student life without leaving the grounds. Admissions, advising, financial aid, testing and enrollment services are grouped in Bayside. The Joint-Use Library, operated in partnership with the City of Virginia Beach, includes public and college computer labs, study rooms and a Writing Assistance Center. Health-profession students use simulation labs in the Regional Health Professions Center; the science building has labs, a planetarium and an observatory. The Student Center brings together the bookstore, career services, fitness center and gymnasium, gaming rooms, student-resource support and food service. TCC says Bistro-to-Go serves sandwiches, burgers, snacks, coffee and cold drinks. The Student Center building lists weekday hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; confirm the hours of a specific office, lab or food counter before you go.
Virginia Beach Campus sits in a suburban part of the city, so many visitors arrive by car. TCC’s campus map marks multiple parking areas, but it does not promise free parking in every lot; follow the signs and ask your destination office about visitor, accessible or closest-building parking. Hampton Roads Transit lists routes 12, 25, 26 and 33 as serving the campus. Enrolled TCC students who have paid tuition or received financial aid can purchase a discounted GoSemester Pass through a campus business office; the fee and sale period vary by term. Check current route schedules and trip-planning information before travelling. Get directions to the Virginia Beach Campus, then use the college’s building map to identify your classroom or appointment.
The campus reflects more than five decades of public higher education in the region. TCC traces its founding to 1968, and Virginia Beach Campus was formally dedicated in 1973. It has since added facilities for technology, health-profession simulation, science and shared public learning. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. That mix matters to a prospective student: TCC is both a place to complete a short workforce credential and a starting point for an associate degree that may transfer. Compare the specific credits and course sequence with the career or transfer destination you have in mind, and ask an adviser to check that each required class is available at the Virginia Beach site.
For an application, begin with TCC’s new-student enrollment steps. To estimate costs, review the current tuition and fee schedule, then submit the FAFSA and check the college’s scholarship opportunities and G3 programs.
