For many Arlington students, the first useful distinction is between a college district and the campus where a class actually meets. Tarrant County College (TCC) serves Tarrant County through several campuses; its Southeast Campus is the district’s in-person college site in Arlington, near the New York Avenue and Southeast Parkway junction. It opened in 1996, when neighborhoods were expanding along the Arlington–Mansfield corridor. This October, the campus marked three decades with the opening of a major renovation and expansion: 100,000 square feet of new space and 234,000 square feet renewed. The investment changes the setting, but the practical question remains the same: which program, support office and class location fit your plans?
Apply first, then work through placement and registration
TCC describes its admissions policy as open admission. A new student starts with the online ApplyTCC application; ApplyTexas is an alternate route, though TCC warns that it can take longer to process. After applying, watch the personal email account for the student-login setup and any document requests. High-school transcripts, residency records and other materials are required only when they apply to the student’s situation. A meningitis vaccination record is required for new students under 22 taking face-to-face courses, subject to the college’s listed exemptions.
Admission is not the same as being ready to register for every course. New students meet a Success Coach, complete the Pre-Assessment Activity and check whether prior scores or records exempt them from TSI testing. TCC’s Career Advisor meeting and New Trailblazer Orientation are part of the first-time enrollment sequence. TSI measures readiness and helps place students into appropriate classes; it is not a blanket competitive admissions test. Nursing and other limited-entry programs can have additional prerequisites, application rounds or screenings. Start with TCC’s new-student application and enrollment checklist, then compare the current catalog and term schedule before building a course plan.
What tuition costs in 2026–27
For Fall 2026, TCC lists undergraduate tuition by residency at $74 per semester credit hour for legal Tarrant County residents, $136 for residents of another Texas county, and $315 for out-of-state and foreign nonresidents. The posted rates exclude books, supplies and other learning materials. Program charges, clinical or certification expenses, background checks and some course fees can be added. A class attempted for a third time or more carries an extra $60 per credit hour. TCC also lists a $29 TSI assessment, with retests priced by section. The official tuition and fee schedule is the place to verify an individual bill.
The district’s FY2027 program-cost table gives a concrete planning example: its 60-credit Associate of Science and several 60-credit applied associate degrees have estimated tuition and fees of $4,440 at the Tarrant County rate. At 15 credits in each of four fall and spring terms, 60 credits fit a two-academic-year pace on paper. That is a planning model, not a promise of graduation in two years: placement coursework, prerequisites, program sequencing, part-time study and class availability can extend the calendar. TCC Southeast currently highlights the Associate of Science, Cybersecurity AAS and Nutrition and Dietetics AAS. Its district-wide catalog is broader, but not every credential is offered at every campus or each term.
How to look for grants and scholarships
Students seeking federal need-based aid should begin with the FAFSA; TCC also directs eligible applicants who cannot use FAFSA to the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Aid is tied to eligibility, satisfactory academic progress and program rules, so filing the forms does not guarantee an award. TCC’s Foundation opens one general scholarship application each spring for hundreds of donor-funded awards; departments may offer separate scholarships for students in particular majors.
One local option is the Tarrant To and Through Partnership’s T3 Last Dollar Scholarship. Eligible students can have remaining tuition covered after Pell and other federal, state or institutional aid is applied, for up to eight consecutive semesters excluding summer, or until completing a certificate or associate degree. TCC also lists a $500-per-semester book scholarship with its own credit-load, GPA, financial-need and Student Aid Index rules. These programs do not have one universal eligibility test or deadline. Review TCC’s current scholarship and state-aid options and ask the Financial Aid office which application is appropriate for your residency and program.
English classes range from everyday communication to college coursework
At Southeast, a student still developing English can ask the English Language Learning Program (ELLP) which route matches the goal. TCC distinguishes Workforce ESL, six levels from Basic through Level 5 for workplace and everyday communication, from three levels of Pre-Academic ESL intended to strengthen grammar and prepare for college-level study. Classes are in person, and the college says offerings vary by campus and semester. A coordinator may use the Michigan English Placement Test to place a student. Workforce ESL may qualify for Texas Public Educational Grant support; Pre-Academic ESL is not eligible for financial aid.
Students ready for credit-bearing classes should also ask about English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), which prepares students for academic work and has its own placement requirements. This is different from TCC’s Adult Education and Literacy classes: the latter are free for eligible adult residents of Tarrant and several surrounding counties and are offered at campuses and community sites. For the Southeast ELLP coordinator, TCC lists Melody Nguyen in ESEC (SE03), Room 1102, at 817-515-3565, and asks visitors to call or email for an appointment. Compare the ESL and pre-academic English pathways before registering, because their goals, aid rules and schedules differ.
A campus redesigned around the student route
The October 2026 opening completed a $193 million district bond project at Southeast. TCC reports two new buildings and extensive renovation; the northern building was planned as a front door with admissions, financial aid, business services, testing, onboarding and advising, while the southern building brings classrooms, labs, faculty workspace and culinary instruction. The Learning Commons adds a more everyday kind of support: the campus calendar identifies library and tutoring resources, including language, math, writing, accounting and economics help. These services can matter as much as the credential itself when a student is learning to navigate college for the first time.
The campus opened in 1996 and now serves Arlington, Mansfield and southeast Tarrant County. TCC reports current enrollment approaching 10,000 and more than a quarter-million students served since opening. The campus page also identifies early-college high schools and Lifestyle and Community Learning alongside its academic programs. The college’s own student stories describe how coaching, tutoring and starting with a manageable course load can help people return to study; those accounts are examples, not guarantees of an individual result.
Driving, parking and transportation
The campus address is 2100 Southeast Parkway, Arlington, TX 76018. TCC’s driving page directs motorists from I-20 to New York Avenue, and from the north also lists an approach via Highway 360 and Southeast Parkway. The campus map shows parking and building locations; TCC says a parking permit is no longer required at Southeast. Students who meet the district’s eligibility rules can use Arlington On-Demand rideshare free within its service area. The service uses app-booked shared rides and publishes weekday and Saturday hours; check the coverage area and request process before relying on it for a class commute. Open TCC’s route and campus map and confirm the building for your appointment or class before setting out.
Choose a campus by the course, not just by the college name
TCC is a countywide district, and some college-wide programs, online courses and student services are based at other campuses or delivered remotely. For an Arlington student, the clearest starting point is to select a goal—transfer, career training, English study or adult education—then verify that the course section is scheduled at Southeast and that its prerequisites match your record. The campus’s newly rebuilt welcome and learning spaces make the first visit easier to organize, but the course catalog, financial-aid file and term schedule still determine the actual route to a credential.
Tarrant County College Southeast Campus is the district’s Arlington site, with current campus highlights in science, cybersecurity and dietetics, a new student-facing welcome area, learning support and a free on-demand transportation option for eligible students.
