Pembroke Pines offers three different ways for children to learn soccer: a municipal recreation league, the nonprofit Pembroke Pines Optimist program and West Pines United FC’s competitive pathway. The City of Pembroke Pines uses West Pines Soccer Park for leagues and camps. Pines Optimist has recreational Piranhas and tryout-based Heat Strikers at Pines Recreation Center. West Pines United runs a Youth Academy and year-round competitive teams. These are not three names for one league: age cutoffs, training intensity and enrollment rules differ.
The City’s program serves ages three through eighteen. Spring runs January–May and fall September–November. The page lists Fall 2026 at $150 for residents and $215 for nonresidents, but registration is closed; it did not show a Spring 2027 fee when checked. Spring enrollment normally opens in September, so use the current city catalog before budgeting. West Pines Soccer Park is at 350 SW 196th Avenue and has six soccer fields. The City also offers camps and after-school academy or goalkeeper classes when scheduled.
Pines Optimist is a defined winter option. Its 2026–27 Piranhas program serves ages four to seventeen, has no tryouts and relies on volunteer parent coaches. The season runs early December–April. The one-time fee is $225 for residents or $320 for nonresidents and includes uniforms, referee fees, the year-end party and Florida Youth Soccer Association registration; shoes, shin guards, socks, ball and the online processing fee are extra. U6–U8 practice Tuesday and Thursday after 6 p.m.; older days depend on volunteer availability. Competitive Heat Strikers require tryouts and bring year-round play and travel.
West Pines United is more selective. Its Youth Academy serves ages four to ten and presents itself as a bridge toward premier competition, with training options Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Chapel Trail and Silver Lakes North parks. The family selects one to three days, but the page does not post an exact session time or fee. The year-round competitive program is listed for ages eight to nineteen. The club reports state, regional and national player selections, college and professional advancement, and team championships; ask which current age groups have recent placements and request the full costs before joining.
The area’s soccer scene is also multisport. Pines Optimist offers youth football and cheerleading as well as soccer; West Pines Soccer Park has public basketball, playground and nature areas. Comments about the Optimist address mention a family setting, fields, staff and lighting, but concern the broader club rather than a specific team. Regional top-flight soccer includes Inter Miami CF in MLS and Fort Lauderdale United’s women in the Division I Gainbridge Super League at Davie. The best comparison is age, weekly practices, tryout policy, travel and total fees. Check the Piranhas page, West Pines programs and the city catalog.
Confirm the child’s team, current field assignment and full season cost before registering.
