How to Study at Oklahoma City Community College: Admission, Tuition, ESL and Campuses

Admission requirements, per-credit tuition, local aid, free English classes, and the difference between the Main Campus and Capitol Hill Center.

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is a public two-year institution whose footprint reaches beyond a single South May address. Its Main Campus carries the degree catalog and central student services; Capitol Hill Center brings adult learning and job-readiness work into a south-side neighborhood; free English and high-school-equivalency classes are scheduled at sites around the metro. That distinction matters when choosing where to begin: the nearest class location may not be the place where a degree program is taught.

The college began in 1972 as South Oklahoma City Junior College, after a local civic campaign for accessible higher education. It opened with a little over 1,000 students in one building and took the Oklahoma City Community College name in 1983. OCCC now reports more than 80 associate degrees and certificates, and serves over 18,000 people each year through credit, noncredit and workforce education. The current academic divisions cover arts and humanities, business and information technology, health professions, science and engineering, and social sciences. Nursing, cybersecurity, engineering, automotive technology, and film and digital media are among the fields the college highlights. Program length depends on the credential: OCCC lists its nursing associate degree at 70–71 credits, with a traditional pathway designed for five semesters after entry to the nursing program; the Maintenance and Light Vehicle Repair certificate is 18 credits. Those examples have different admission and course sequences, so the catalog and program pages are the reliable place to plan a start date.

Admission: start with the right checklist

New students submit an admission application, then follow the documents listed for their status and intended program. OCCC’s current FAQ says applicants under 21 should provide a high-school transcript, ACT scores and records from any colleges attended. For applicants over 21, it requests prior-college transcripts, while high-school records are usually not required. The college uses placement tools to help students and advisors choose suitable starting courses; first-time students meet with an advisor before registration. Some health programs have selective entry and separate application packets, so general admission does not by itself guarantee a place in nursing, physical therapy assistant or occupational therapy assistant training. Start with OCCC’s admissions page and follow the checklist for the term you want.

What tuition costs—and where aid may help

OCCC currently publishes a total of $146.06 per credit hour for Oklahoma residents and $337.76 for nonresidents, with those rates effective Fall 2025. At twelve credits, the arithmetic is $1,752.72 for a resident and $4,053.12 for a nonresident before extra program charges. Those are not all-in degree prices: lab, music, testing, electronic-media and other fees may apply, and the total number of credits depends on the credential and transfer credit. The financial-aid office directs applicants to the FAFSA and lists OCCC’s school code as 010391. Scholarships and tuition waivers have their own applications and conditions. OKCGo can cover remaining tuition for qualifying graduates from a defined list of local high schools, for up to five semesters; students remain responsible for books and fees and must satisfy the FAFSA, credit-load, timing and renewal rules. Read the current OKCGo eligibility page before counting on that aid.

Learning English before or alongside a college plan

Adults who need English support can begin with OCCC’s free, noncredit ESL program through Community Outreach & Education. A short assessment helps place learners, and classes use work and academic settings—such as health care, hospitality, retail and higher education—to practice language alongside job-search, digital-literacy and career skills. The college says adult classes meet twice a week for six hours, with morning, afternoon and evening options, and that students must be at least 16 and attend a new-student orientation. Free High School Equivalency classes are another noncredit route. These programs can strengthen readiness, but they do not replace admission, placement or prerequisites for a credit-bearing degree. The adult-program page and interactive map show current class locations and orientation links.

Two sites, two different starting points

For a degree, advising appointment, campus tour or broad look at academic divisions, begin at the OCCC Main Campus, 7777 S May Ave. The institution says its parking is free, with an OCCC decal required for every vehicle; designated visitor and accessible parking spaces are shown on the campus map. Recreation and Fitness lists a wellness center, exercise offerings, pickleball and a walking trail near lots E and F. These services make the main site more than a place to attend class, though access and hours vary by program and term.

The Capitol Hill Center, at 325 SW 25th St, has a more focused neighborhood role. OCCC describes bilingual Spanish-English adult education and job-readiness courses, including computer and internet skills, résumé writing and interview preparation; some computer classes are also available in Korean. Its Community Outreach division coordinates ESL and equivalency classes across the metro, so a class listed under the center may meet at a different address. Call before visiting to confirm current enrollment, the language of instruction and the exact classroom location.

For a prospective student, a useful sequence is to identify the credential and its campus, calculate tuition by residency and credits, submit the admissions application, complete FAFSA or scholarship forms, and then meet an advisor before registering. If English is the immediate barrier, ask about the next ESL orientation and use the class map to find a nearby location. That way, the first trip answers a specific question—where to apply, where to study, or which service can help—rather than treating every OCCC address as interchangeable.
