Odessa College Wrangler Promise 2027: eligibility, deadlines, and the 60-credit limit

Wrangler Promise may cover remaining tuition and fees for graduates in Odessa College’s service area. The class-of-2027 cohort has staggered deadlines, full-time rules, and a limit of 60 attempted credits or an associate degree.

Odessa College’s Wrangler Promise is a last-dollar scholarship for eligible graduates from high schools in the college’s service area. The 2027 page says it covers remaining tuition and fees after other aid, up to an associate degree or 60 attempted credits. Coverage is limited to those charges and an eligible study path; it is not a complete budget for transportation, rent, food, or personal expenses.

The class of 2027 must live in the service area, start full time at Odessa College in the fall after high school, and complete FAFSA or TASFA. GED and homeschool students have an age rule: the site lists students aged 17–19 after 2027 who completed their equivalency in the 2026–27 academic year. The programme says the main route has no household-income or high-school GPA threshold, but admission, documents, and orientation still matter.

Published dates are spread across senior year. The pledge is due by May 17, 2027. ApplyTexas, FAFSA/TASFA, and registration are due July 7. Award acceptance is listed for August 16, marked subject to change, and orientation must be completed by August 24. The pledge opens in September 2026. Save confirmation for each step; for FAFSA help, contact financialaid@odessa.edu instead of waiting until the last week.

To keep the award, students must attend in fall and spring with at least 12 credits, maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and satisfactory academic progress, and meet co-curricular participation requirements. Odessa mentions tutoring and meetings with an Academic Success Coach or College Life Coach. One term below 12 credits requires a return to full-time status the next semester; falling below full time twice ends eligibility. Dual credit does not automatically disqualify a student, but those credits count toward the 60-hour cap. An associate degree already earned is disqualifying.

One more financial detail: Wrangler Promise is applied to the balance after Pell, scholarships, and other aid. If earlier aid already covers tuition, the programme may pay nothing additional; the FAQ says the award has no cash value and unused amounts are not refunded. If you move outside the district after graduation, you may still qualify, but Odessa warns that residence determines the cost rate and the student may owe the difference above the in-district rate. Ask Student Financial Services for a breakdown before registering. The Wrangler Promise profile gathers these rules and contacts.

Wrangler Promise is also different from Odessa College Foundation scholarships. AwardSpring lists separate funds that may depend on major, GPA, credit hours, residence, financial need, or donor rules; availability changes, and summer rules differ. In some cases, other aid can reduce a Foundation award. The Odessa College Foundation profile explains how to explore those alternatives. Compare total tuition/fees, books, and housing costs, and do not count an award until it appears in the Wrangler Portal.

Bottom line

Wrangler Promise may reduce tuition and fees for the class of 2027, but students must meet several deadlines and remain full time. Check the final balance with Odessa College because other aid applies first.
