Greater Los Angeles has no single youth-soccer neighborhood. A competitive academy may train on the Westside, a beginner class may meet in Carson or Torrance, and a community league may center on Hollywood and Wilshire. Compare age, experience and travel before comparing price. LA Youth is a boys’ MLS NEXT academy; LA Galaxy Youth Skills teaches beginner and intermediate players; AYSO Region 78 organizes community teams around Fairfax High School.
LA Youth Soccer serves boys U13–U19 in six MLS NEXT Academy Division teams. Tryout requests are open year-round and free, but the program is selective: annual fees are discussed only after a roster offer, and need-based aid is available. Its Westside schedule can use Emerson Middle School, Westwood Recreation Center, Tommy’s Field and other venues. Families request a current evaluation time and confirm the field assigned to the player’s age group.
For younger players, LA Galaxy Youth Skills Training offers weekly one-hour classes for ages 6–12 at Galaxy Park in Carson and LA Galaxy Soccer Center in Torrance. The October–December 2026 cycle is underway; class prices and times vary by age and location, with a $25 annual membership. A free trial can be arranged in advance. These sessions teach ball skills; they are not a tryout for the professional team.
AYSO Region 78 is the neighborhood option for Hollywood, Wilshire and nearby families, with community divisions from 5U to 18U. Published Fall 2026 fees were $245 for 5U/6U, $345 regular and $365 late; limited financial assistance is available. Fairfax High is the main field, but permits can change the site. Sunday school parking is unavailable, so read the field instructions rather than relying on a map pin alone.
Los Angeles has two MLS first-division clubs, but their homes are in different places: LAFC plays at BMO Stadium in the city, while the LA Galaxy first team plays at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. These youth programs are not interchangeable with either club’s professional academy. Request an LA Youth evaluation for elite selection, compare Galaxy’s current class list for instruction, or ask AYSO about its next season. Official sign-up pages provide current applications; check the travel time between the Westside, Hollywood and Carson before choosing a weekly commitment.
Confirm the child’s team, current field assignment and full season cost before registering.
