REACH Georgia: middle-school mentoring and a scholarship of up to $10,000

REACH selects students in participating school systems, assigns a mentor, and creates a scholarship fund tied to academic commitments.

REACH—Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen—is a long-term pathway, not an open application for any high-school senior. Participating school systems identify students with promise and financial need, generally in middle school, and provide academic coaching and mentoring to help them complete high school and pursue postsecondary education. Selection happens locally and requires commitments from students, families, and communities.

Participation depends on whether the student’s school system participates and has an available cohort. The school invites students and coordinates selection, records, mentors, and commitment documents; there is no individual application to GSFC that bypasses local selection. To retain scholarship eligibility, scholars must graduate with at least a 2.50 HOPE GPA and meet academic and mentoring milestones under current rules.

The program structures a scholarship of up to $10,000 at high-school completion, subject to cohort rules and funding. For scholars selected beginning in 2024–25, the local school system raises a proportional share of $1,000 per scholar and the state program provides the remaining $9,000. Funds are used at an eligible postsecondary institution and should not be treated as guaranteed cash before certification.

If you are in middle school, ask your counselor whether your school system participates in REACH and what its cohort criteria are; current scholars should stay in touch with their mentor and school coordinator. Families should track the signed commitment, meetings, grades, and postsecondary selection. GSFC publishes a program contact, but nominations run through the district.

REACH is not a scholarship a recent graduate can apply for independently: participation begins earlier and is limited to participating school systems. Read the program profile and the administering office; ask your campus financial-aid office to review your individual file.
