Rogers STEM Scholarship: added education benefits for Veterans and Fry Scholars

It may extend GI Bill use by up to nine months or $30,000 for approved STEM paths when a student is nearing exhaustion of benefits.

The Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship offers added benefits to certain Post-9/11 GI Bill Veterans and Fry Scholars in approved STEM studies. It does not replace the GI Bill and is not available to every science student: it targets people who have exhausted or are nearing entitlement exhaustion and meet program, progress, and timing rules.

VA covers students in approved undergraduate STEM or dual-degree programs, certain clinical training for health professionals, and STEM teaching certification after an approved degree. In general, six months or less of GI Bill/Fry entitlement must remain, unless another eligibility route applies. The program’s CIP code can control even when the major’s name differs; check the current list.

If approved, VA may add up to nine months of benefits or $30,000, whichever comes first. The monthly rate follows the underlying Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry benefit, as applicable; it is not a flat stipend. It cannot be combined with VA’s Yellow Ribbon match for the same benefit.

Check VA’s approved fields and CIP codes, confirm remaining entitlement, and file online using Form 22-10203 before benefits are fully exhausted. The school must certify the program and enrollment. Keep records of months and credits; VA may request additional documentation.

This is not an open STEM scholarship. Do not wait until all GI Bill months are used to check eligibility, and do not assume a STEM label is enough. Read the program profile and the administering agency; ask your financial-aid office to review your individual case.
