Delgado Community College is not a single campus tucked into the French Quarter. Its teaching locations stretch from City Park and Algiers to New Orleans East, with a specialized maritime training center farther east and a manufacturing site across the parish line in Avondale. That geography is part of the decision: a nursing, cosmetology or welding student may have a different daily destination from someone taking general education or academic English. Delgado says its City Park campus is its original and largest site; the institution opened in 1921 as a trades school created through Isaac Delgado’s bequest to the city. The college now combines transfer degrees, applied programs, technical credentials and noncredit workforce classes.
Start with the application and the program, not with a guess about eligibility. The current admissions FAQ says the $20 application fee takes effect October 19, 2026. Applicants must provide proof of immunization compliance or an approved waiver and, when applicable, Selective Service documentation. The college says people 16 and older may attend without a high-school diploma or equivalency, although particular programs can set a higher threshold and federal financial aid requires a high-school credential or equivalent. ACT scores are not required for first-time admission. Delgado may use an optional placement assessment to place students in English, mathematics and reading; the school says it is not pass/fail. New students should follow the enrollment checklist, complete any required orientation and meet with an adviser before registering. Start the online application and use the current admissions FAQ to check documents for your situation.
What does tuition cost? Delgado’s current Cost of Attendance page lists $4,388 in tuition and fees for several in-state student budgets, and $4,488 for one off-campus budget. The page does not label those table figures with an academic year or give a universal per-credit quote in the same table, so they are best treated as institutional planning estimates, not a guaranteed bill or a promise that every student pays the same. Books, course materials, transportation, housing and program-specific charges affect the full budget. Delgado’s Course Complete materials program is published at $25 per credit for eligible books and course materials. Students can ask the bursar for a term-specific estimate and check the college catalog’s current tuition schedule before choosing a credit load. Review the college’s Cost of Attendance estimates and Course Complete details.
Financial aid begins with the FAFSA, which must be filed again for each academic year. Delgado’s federal school code is 004626. Depending on eligibility, a package can include Pell or other grants, scholarships, work-study and loans; grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid, while loans do. The college says students can seek FAFSA help at City Park, West Bank or Sidney Collier. Its scholarship page accepts applications throughout the year, but deadlines and award conditions vary by scholarship, and an application is not an award. Students who need to spread out a balance can review the monthly or twice-monthly payment plan; the payment-plan provider charges a $30 enrollment fee. Find FAFSA instructions and Delgado’s school code, then compare current scholarship opportunities.
English support follows two different routes. Adult Education English Language Learner classes are grant-funded and free, and are designed for adults building English literacy for work, further study or a high-school equivalency. These noncredit classes are not the same as the academic ESL sequence. Academic ESL is a credit-bearing set of grammar, reading, conversation and composition courses, beginning at basic levels and progressing through intermediate levels; the published course sequence lists three credits for each course. Students apply to Delgado, pay a $15 ESL placement-test fee and arrange registration with an ESL adviser. Delgado’s current ESL page says the academic ESL program is not presently eligible for federal student aid. Completing the sequence does not by itself guarantee admission to a selective career program; ask an adviser how placement, prerequisites and program admission fit together. Compare free adult English classes with academic ESL and check the current ESL course and placement information.
Choose a credential with the end goal in view. Delgado’s program finder lists associate degrees, technical certificates, diplomas, technical competency credentials and noncredit professional training. Its Associate of Arts Louisiana Transfer degree requires 60 credits and is designed to continue into a related bachelor’s program; acceptance and application of credits still depend on the receiving university and major. Applied associate degrees combine coursework with professional preparation, while certificates and workforce courses may be shorter and narrower. Their credit totals and calendars are not interchangeable: nursing and allied-health programs can have separate prerequisites and competitive admission, while River City’s workforce courses include accelerated options. The college’s online catalog and program pages identify the credential, campus, prerequisites and course sequence for each field. Rather than assume every associate degree takes exactly two years, ask the department for the current credit map and whether required classes are offered every term. Search Delgado’s programs by credential and location.
For many students the practical question is which service and class are actually at each address. City Park, at 615 City Park Avenue, combines the broadest academic menu with central student services, a library, adult-education classrooms and a gymnasium used by the college basketball teams. West Bank in Algiers serves students on the river’s west side and offers day, evening and Saturday classes; its official page describes programs across arts and sciences, business and technology, plus a fitness center and student-service space. Sidney Collier, in the Desire neighborhood, lists practical nursing, construction, cosmetology, barbering and electrical training alongside advising, financial aid, a library, testing and a food pantry. The Maritime and Industrial Training Center in New Orleans East focuses on firefighting, industrial safety, radar and U.S. Coast Guard-approved maritime instruction. River City in Avondale is a metro-area option for instrumentation, lab science, logistics, precision machining, welding and accelerated workforce training; it is not inside New Orleans city limits.
Parking is managed across Delgado locations rather than assumed to be open visitor parking: the college’s rules require vehicles parked on campus to be registered and display a valid permit. The Maritime Center’s own directions page says visitors may park in the lot outside or inside its gate. Check the site-specific map and the parking portal before a first visit, and verify where your class meets; campus names can cover multiple buildings. The five location profiles linked below add the address, phone, official map route, program focus and useful facilities at each site. For a course schedule, admission question or financial-aid decision, use the relevant college office rather than relying on a location summary.
City Park Campus, West Bank Campus, Sidney Collier Site, Maritime and Industrial Training Center and the metro-area River City Site each serve a distinct purpose. Check the campus map and current term schedule before setting out.
