The grilled version adds melted cheese inside a lightly fried corn tortilla; steak-and-queso empanadas offer a different lunch alongside them.
The family pack keeps fillings and toppings ready to assemble at home, while red pork tamales and potato-based guisados take the meal beyond tacos. Its current site uses the Rockingham address and a telephone takeout contact. Older listings still mention East 53rd Street, which a local delivery partner marks closed; the profile keeps that distinction clear.
Carrillo: a restaurant with a market next door
At Abarrotes Carrillo, the grocery and meat shop are part of the reason to know West Third Street. The restaurant offers tacos on corn or flour tortillas, but huaraches, gorditas and sopes make the masa itself part of the choice. A large burrito points in another direction: rice, beans, meat and several toppings contained in one wrap.
The Carrillo family rebuilt after a serious 2021 fire, reopening the grocery and restaurant in July 2022. Today’s menu also includes pozole, weekend menudo and breakfast dishes. Ordering availability deserves attention: delivery listings exist, but a temporarily disabled direct-order page should not be read as proof that the entire restaurant has closed.
Rudy's: the Davenport classic has its own vocabulary
Rudy and Marilyn Quijas started Rudy's in 1973 with three booths and recipes from Rudy's mother. The familiar ground-beef taco comes in a fried corn shell with lettuce, tomato and cheese; flour shells and newer street-taco fillings broaden the choice. The appeal lies partly in that continuity, rather than in pretending it is the same format as every Mexican street stand.
The East Village address anchors the history. West Kimberly and Elmore offer other Davenport options, including drive-through service and their own hours.
