Anyone living in New Jersey or Pennsylvania should first confirm which consulate has territorial responsibility before looking for an appointment. Colombia’s Foreign Ministry assigns both states to its Consulate General in Newark. That covers communities far from the city, but it does not mean there is a consular counter in every town: the published address is 550 Broad Street, third floor, Newark, New Jersey.
The contact page lists public hours Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; it also says the last passport appointment is issued at 1 p.m. The page publishes a toll-free US information line, an institutional email and an emergency number. These channels serve different purposes: an emergency line is not a substitute for routine inquiries or the appointment system.
The office provides Colombian consular procedures such as passports, identity documents, civil registrations and notarial services, while linking to visa, consular-registration and apostille services. For visitors, the practical question is how access is scheduled. The official calendar for the second half of 2026 does not use one undifferentiated queue: Mondays and Fridays cover all procedures by appointment; Wednesdays host an extended 8 a.m.–4 p.m. passport and powers session; and consular Saturdays are announced separately, with services and capacity set for each date.
The calendar reserves Tuesdays for people over 60 through a dedicated form and Thursdays for residents of Pennsylvania through a separate booking form. For Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday visits, the consulate says the appointment must be requested by 9 a.m. on the preceding business day. Applicants therefore need to identify both their procedure and residence before choosing a date: an available slot is not necessarily the right appointment type for every visitor.
We also found a general public-service instruction on the same portal that gives different rules for age-based priority and walk-in exceptions. Because the newer page provides a specific July–December 2026 calendar, this guide relies on that schedule for current planning and notes that the general instructions are not uniform. We do not recommend arriving without an appointment based on an older rule or third-party summary; the office directs users to its calendar, forms and published emergency policy.
Document preparation depends on the service. A passport application, power of attorney, civil registration and document authentication do not necessarily share requirements or family-attendance rules. The official pages provide separate instructions for each category; before travelling, check originals, identification validity, forms and accepted payment for the specific procedure. The calendar also ties certain Saturdays to passports, powers and permissions, with booking on the preceding Wednesday, so that special session should not be assumed to cover every service.
The exact Google Maps listing for 550 Broad Street contains a range of individual experiences. Reviews include practical references to staff assistance, appointments and waiting times, but each is an account of a particular visit, not proof that a specific slot is available. The most reliable planning information is what the consulate itself publishes: jurisdiction, address, dated calendar and official booking channel.
We checked the office and current instructions so residents can decide what to confirm before travelling. For the address, phone, email, published hours and review context from that exact listing, see the Consulate General of Colombia in Newark profile.

For Newark, the key detail is not simply that the office is open on weekdays; it is which service day applies to the procedure and the applicant’s residence. The 2026 calendar assigns Tuesdays to people over 60 and Thursdays to Pennsylvania residents, alongside an extended passport and powers session on Wednesdays. Checking the schedule and booking by the stated deadline avoids mistaking general opening hours for permission to walk in.
