Where can Colombians in New York and Connecticut handle consular documents, and which services allow walk-ins?

The Manhattan office serves New York and Connecticut. We review how access is divided between walk-in passports, appointments for other procedures, document collection and requirements to settle before visiting.

For residents of New York State or Connecticut, the Colombian consular office with jurisdiction is in Manhattan. The Foreign Ministry’s portal assigns those two states to the district and lists the address as 10 East 46th Street, New York, NY 10017. The Google Maps listing corresponds to the same office in the Fred F. French Building; it should not be confused with other Colombian diplomatic offices or private document providers.

Published general hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but that alone does not answer whether visitors may walk in. The hours page details an important exception: passport applications or renewals from 8 a.m. to noon without an appointment, except Tuesdays. It also lists Tuesday walk-in service for people over 62 and a separate morning window for document collection. Passport applications are handled in person; the consulate takes the photograph, so printed photos are not required.

Other services should not be folded into that passport window. The office handles national ID cards and identity cards, powers and other notarial procedures, minors’ exit permissions, certificates and consular registration; visas are handled online. Appointments are released Tuesday through Friday at 9 a.m. for the next business day. The system requires prior registration, a camera-equipped device for facial verification and information tied to the person performing the procedure. The office says appointments are free, personal and non-transferable, and documents should be ready and printed.

The official pages differ in how specifically they state the rules: the contact page summarizes that passports, minors’ permissions, life certificates and collections do not need an appointment, while the hours page specifies the passport window and adds the Tuesday exception for people over 62. For planning, we rely on the more detailed hours page and recommend confirming that the rule remains active on the intended date. General 8 a.m.–2 p.m. hours should not be read as an all-day passport walk-in window.

Preparation depends on the applicant’s age and procedure. For an adult passport, the office requires personal attendance and valid identification; minors need an accompanying parent or representative and a civil birth record, alongside rules for cases where one parent is absent. The official page gives separate requirements for prior passports, loss and different identification situations. A general guide helps map the process but cannot replace the current checklist for each applicant.

Reviews visible on the exact Maps listing describe different individual experiences with appointments, staff service and timing. Some people report satisfaction with their procedure while others mention practical difficulties; these accounts cannot predict how a particular visit will go. The useful step is to compare that public feedback with official instructions, prepare the paperwork and arrive within the correct booked or walk-in service window.

Keep the information phone, institutional email and emergency line separate: the office limits emergency contact to immigration matters, domestic violence and accident assistance. For routine questions about documents or appointments, use regular channels rather than the emergency contact. Before travelling, check the consulate’s 2026 holiday list and recheck the appointment page, since access rules and availability can change.

We reviewed jurisdiction, access and paperwork to distinguish clearly between services that accept walk-ins and those requiring reservations. The address, contacts and Google Maps review context for this office appear in the Consulate General of Colombia in New York profile.

Bottom line

In Manhattan, not every procedure follows the same access rule. The more detailed page provides a morning walk-in window for passports except on Tuesdays and directs other services to appointments or a separate collection window. Checking the exact procedure, day-specific exception and documents before setting out is essential, including for Connecticut residents travelling into New York.
