Which Colombian consulate serves Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico, and which Los Angeles procedures allow walk-ins?

The Los Angeles office serves Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico. This guide explains its jurisdiction, Beverly Hills location and the current pilot allowing selected walk-in procedures subject to residency, hours and daily capacity.

California is not served by just one Colombian consulate. The Foreign Ministry divides the state: the Consulate General in Los Angeles serves Southern California, along with Arizona and New Mexico; its official page says Las Vegas, Nevada, belongs to San Francisco. That distinction matters for residents far from the metropolitan area: Los Angeles should not be described as the counter for all of California or Nevada. Confirm that your address falls within the published district before booking.

The official address is 8383 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 930, Beverly Hills, California 90211, on the ninth floor. The consulate provides public-transit directions: take the Purple Line D to Wilshire/La Cienega and walk west along Wilshire Boulevard toward San Vicente. Its contact page lists procedure hours Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.–2 p.m., and document collection until 4 p.m.; Google Maps identifies the same office at the building and shows its next opening as 9 a.m. Monday. Because a special walk-in schedule is also in effect, distinguish these general hours from the pilot below and check the current procedure before visiting.

The most significant operational update is a pilot that began on September 1, 2026 “until further notice.” Monday to Thursday, 8–11 a.m., residents of Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico may walk in for passports, recognition of a signature on a special power, authentications, marriage or death registration, a consular card, minors’ exit permissions and life certificates. Living in the United States alone is not enough: the notice requires current proof of residence, such as a driver’s licence, original utility bill, tax payment or vehicle registration. Daily capacity is limited and visitors are seen in arrival order, with priority for people over 65.

The list excluded from the pilot matters just as much. National ID cards, identity cards and birth registration still require an online appointment. Public deeds, general powers, residence certificates and renunciation of nationality must be requested by email under the current notice. Anyone without accepted proof of residence is directed to book online. Appointments are free; the portal advises against intermediaries. This is a temporary trial and each procedure has different requirements, so the list can change.

For passports, the requirements page says applicants must appear in person at the selected office, need not bring photographs and must show a valid Colombian ID or the accepted document for their case; minors need additional birth records and must attend with a parent or authorised representative. The consulate warns that delivery can take more than 20 working days, depending on transport and exceptional circumstances. That makes it sensible to apply with time to spare, confirm whether a specific case is covered by the walk-in pilot or book online, and check what identification will be needed to collect the booklet.

Other visitors’ accounts add practical context, not a guarantee: the exact Google Maps listing includes recent positive comments about staff diligence and election-day service, alongside differing views about visits. Appointment access and service experience recur in reviews. The useful conclusion is not to predict every appointment, but to bring the requested proof of residence, the applicable confirmation or schedule and the original documents listed for the procedure.

The office also publishes official email, WhatsApp information, Instagram and Facebook channels. Before setting out, check whether the pilot remains active and whether capacity is available that day; a temporary notice can change even when the address does not. The Consulate General of Colombia in Los Angeles profile brings together the location, phone lines, published hours and review context from the same office.

Bottom line

To avoid a wasted trip, confirm jurisdiction first and then the service method. Los Angeles’s pilot adds walk-in access for selected procedures, but requires proof of residence, has a Monday–Thursday morning window and limits the number of visitors. Anyone who does not meet those conditions should use the official appointment system. For passports, the requirements page also calls for personal attendance and warns that production/delivery may take more than 20 working days.
